Shattered-Chapter 13

By: Lisa Marie

Brian led Lis over to the couch and made her sit down. "Rok, c'mon! I think I can stand up."

"And if you faint and hit your head..."

"Then maybe I'll lose my memory like Nick and everything will be fine!" she said softly.

He sat down next to her. "Look, Lis this is hard we all know it is...AJ mentioned something today, you got into art school. Have you thought about going there?"

"What?" She asked, shocked anyone would think she should leave.

"Just for a semester even, it might be good for you to get away from the situation..."

"Just up and go?" The disbelief becoming apparent on her face.

"Well at least go away for a few days and check it out." he suggested.

"You mean move on...forget about him, find some new guy in New York and forget about my entire life." Her voice rising as she grew more and more angry with what her friend was saying.

"No Lis, I didn't say that!"

"What are you saying B? Because it sounds like you just want me to walk away."

"No, it's just it might be best if you...maybe you did try to move on." he said softly.

Lis got up and ran from the room. "Lis! Lis I didn't mean it that way!" he called after her but just heard her door slam in response. "Good going B-rok." he said shaking his head.

Hannah and Nick walked in the back door of the house. The place was dark, not a light on anywhere and silent. They exchanged puzzled looks as Han set her purse and keys down.

"Hello?" Han called into the stillness.

"Shhh!" Brian said, walking softly into the kitchen.

"What's going on?" Nick asked, "Why's it so dark?"

"I'll get to everything in a minute, just whisper ok?"

"Rok, you're scaring me." Han said honestly.

"Don't mean to, look Lis isn't feeling well so she's up in her room and I crashed on the couch so I wouldn't wake her."

"I wanna check on her." Han said, starting to move towards the stairs.

"Han, I think maybe just leave her alone for awhile. She isn't having that great a day, she fainted at the mall."

"Fainted?" Nick asked in surprise.

"She said it's the heat, but I think she's sick." Brian explained.

Han sat at the table. "You going to check on Lis, B?"

"Yeah, it's been awhile." He said and left the room.

Han looked at Nick. "I think you should wait awhile to tell her. If she is sick...this could put her in the hospital, you don't know how much pain she's in Nick. It's like part of her died in that car accident."

Nick sighed and sunk onto the chair. "I know...it's just, I can't deal with everything here right now Han. I honestly think I'd be better off on my own."

Lisa laid in bed, her eyes covered with a cold face cloth. She sighed hearing the sound of footsteps in the hall and then her door opening. Instinctively she knew it was B.

Brian sat next to her on the bed. "You awake?" he whispered, not wanting to wake her if she wasn't.

"Wide awake. Did I hear a car pull up?"

"Yeah Han and Nick are back."

"Did they say how the beach was?"

"I didn't ask...how are you feeling?"

"The same." she answered, willing him to leave her alone.

Brian lifted away the face cloth. "You should see a doctor Lis, you wanna be in the hospital?"

"Would you be there bugging me?" she asked, with a small smile.

"Of course."

"Then I'd rather be here."

"And I'd rather have you here and well." He said laying down next to her. "I care about you Lis, and so does everyone else."

Lis sighed and rested her head on his chest. "Ok B, if I don't feel better soon I'll see a doctor."

"That's my girl." he said kissing her forehead.

Nick went up the stairs slowly, he didn't want to disturb Lis and Brian but he did want to change, since the shirt he was wearing was starting to stick to him because of the heat. He went into his room and threw on a wife beater and started to head back down the stairs when he realized the door to Lis' room was partially open. Nick stopped and peeked in, seeing Brian laying next to Lis, his arm around her and her head on his chest. 'How close are they?' he wondered as he went downstairs to Han.

Brian walked outside on the back deck later to find Nick swimming the pool and Han sitting on the steps of the deck. He handed her a drink and sat down beside her.

"Thanks B." she said, opening her water.

"No problem. You guys been outside long?"

"A couple minutes, it was too hot inside. She ok?"

"Still the same, got her to say though if she doesn't feel better soon she'll go to the doctor."

"That's good."

"How was the beach?"

Han turned to him. "Good, not many people so we got to spend time together without him getting recognized."

Brian nodded. "He looked like he had something on his mind."

"He's got something to say to you and Lis."

"Why do I not like the sound of this?"

"Because you probably won't."

He put his head in his hands and let out a sigh. "Great."

Han put her hand on his shoulder. "What's really wrong with Lis?"

"She's running herself into the ground, it's getting to her and she's so damn much like Frack she's pushing everyone away. Alec and Jenn finally got her to go out for awhile and it was going good for awhile and she fainted. Then when she came home we kinda had an argument and she went to her room. So instead of helping her, I made her feel even worse."

"I'm sure she knows you were trying to help." Han remarked.

Bri nodded and looked out at the pool where his friend was swimming.

Lis looked out the window and saw Nick swimming while B and Han sat on the deck stairs. She sighed and walked away from the window, maybe the guys were right, going to New York wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.
