Angel entered Kevin’s room. He looked up from the TV.
‘Hey you’re back.’ Angel sat down next to him.
‘Kevin, I couldn’t keep my promise.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘In the hospital I promised to keep Brian with you as long as I could. I tried I really tried.’ Kevin didn’t listen. He got up and ran to Brian’s room. Nick was crying hysterically.
‘Wake up, Brian, wake up.’ Kevin took Nick’s arm.
‘He won’t wake up, Kev. He just won’t wake up.’
‘I know Nick. I know.’ Kevin sat down and hugged Nick. Nick broke down and started screaming:
‘Why Kevin, why? He was happy with Angel, wasn’t he? The doctor said he was better.’ The noise that Nick made woke up Howie and AJ. They came running in the room.
‘What the hell is going on?’ AJ looked very angry but that changed when he saw Nick.
‘Nick man, what is wrong?’ Kevin looked at the two guys.
‘He is gone.’ His voice broke.
‘Brian is gone.’ Howie sank in a chair. AJ walked over to the bed.
‘Are you sure he isn’t sleeping?’
‘Angel told me.’
‘She is back?’
‘No, I dreamt that she told me.’ Kevin looked at Angel who was sitting next to him. She touched his cheek.
‘I know, Kevin, I’ll be there for you later.’ Kevin nodded. Howie and AJ lifted Nick from the bed and carried him to his room. Kevin turned to face Angel but saw Brian standing behind her.
‘Why did Nick have to find you?’
‘I don’t know.’
‘Why did you die Brian?’
‘It happened in my sleep. Don’t blame me.’ Angel stood up.
‘I’m the one to blame. I should have never come to Brian.’
‘Nonsense you made him happy.’ Angel hugged Kevin.
‘Let it out Kevin. Say goodbye.’ Kevin buried his face in her shoulder and slowly started to sob. Angel looked at Brian and than at the door. Brian got the message and left. Angel held Kevin for nearly an hour as he continued to cry.
‘He was happy Kevin.’ ‘I know.’ Suddenly he looked up.
‘Why hasn’t he gone to heaven? He died.’
‘I don’t know Kevin, I honestly don’t know."
