Happy St. Paddy's Day to Ye!
I'm so glad you could drop by because this is one of my favorite days of the year. Ahhh, yes! I have a wee bit of the Irish in me blood as my great grandfather, Jacob Bailey, was of Irish descent. That's just one of the many reasons that I love Ireland and why I chose to give Irish names to both my sons, Sean and Erin.
Over the years, I've had the good fortune of traveling to Ireland many times and I never grow tired of going to that lovely country. Which brings me to another reason that I like Ireland so much. It's very much like the South! The Irish people are gracious, friendly and very humorous.
In Ireland, Saint Patrick's Day is traditionally a religious holiday. However, in America it has become a day of fun and festivities regardless of whether one happens to be Irish. But to those of Irish descent, the roots of St. Patrick's Day are not forgotten. We enjoy the parades and holiday fun and it gives us the opportunity to share in the wonderful culture and heritage of the Irish people through their music, dancing and story telling.
Many of the early settlers in the South were of Irish descent so it is little wonder that we Southerners still honor the Irish traditions today. Many of our old Southern tunes and songs came to us from Ireland, particularly here in the Southern Appalachian mountains of North Carolina where I live. The jigs and reels have been passed down from generation to generation, and are still enjoyed as they were two hundred years ago. Clogging, which is a dance form in the mountains of North Carolina, derived from Irish dancing.
So this is a day that Southerners as well as the Irish celebrate. And celebrate we will! We will have the usual Irish blessings and wonderful words of wisdom to live by. There will be lots of Irish tunes and last but not least, there is my own personal photo gallery that I just can't wait to share with you!
So come on, grab a hot cup of Bewley's Irish Creme coffee and join me for a virtual Irish tour. See ye on the next page! ![]() Thank you, Steel Magnolias, so very much for this award! I'm truly honored indeed! And may you all have a wonderful St.Pat's Day.
