The Métis Nation of the United States has been incorporated since 1997
but was started in 1994 by a few individuals who knew who they were. And who did not want the
power of the government to order them the way it has ordered the living and dying of the American
Indian (First Nations) for centuries.
As Métis, you have the rights and freedoms that the government would like you to be
ignorant of. The Métis Nation of the United States is NOT here to take anything away from our First
Nation brothers and sisters. In fact, we are trying to help ALL our people to live together.
Today our government does not even recognize the existence of our people.
In Canada it is a different story. By the "Constitution Act of 1982", the Canadian Federal Government
recognized the Métis people as Indian (indigenous) People in their Constitution.
Most of us were not raised in the traditional ways of our respective peoples.
Because the teachings and practices of ALL American Indian Religions were outlawed by the
United States Government until 1978. And, because of this most of the Spiritual Teachings have
been lost. We find it necessary to incorporate those teachings that HAVE survived.
As we look around, we see more evidence that the prophesies and visions
of the ancient ones are coming true. Mother Earth is beginning to rebel. We are the Métis Nation and while
we are of (mixed-blood) from tribes which have been assimilated or no longer exist. We are as red as
those of Full Blood, (in our hearts).
We adhere to the traditions of our forefathers as much as is possible in this time.
We are genuinely concerned with the red race and how to become stronger by becoming closer.
As Métis people of today, we are like other nations in the world. Today we represent a mixure of
genetic heritage.
Our identity lies in our collective life, history, ancestry, culture, values, traditions
and ties to the land. We see problems looming if we continue to stay fragmented. We must come
together to form one Nation of people......the Métis Nation!!!! We are here to tell you that you Do Have A Choise.
