Small Town USA

Welcome to small town USA
Allow me to give you the tour
Come along now, right this way
and you’ll see all the allure

There’s a Baptist Church on every street
to keep the populace in line
So long as you recognize them as the elite
you’ll get along just fine

Uptown doctors, lawyers, preachers, clerks
Outstanding citizens with umblemished lives
They peddle their wares and reap the perks
Then go home to abuse their submissive wives

Here the City Council congregates
home of the white elephant
within those walls they gravely deliberate
before doing whatever the churches want

Ahead the local center of trade
where every locals feet have trod
Where you can get anything you could want
Just as long as it’s okay with God

Across the street is the courthouse proper
where the dramas of justice are played
true justice is blind and it’s easy to stop her
if all of the right people are paid

Next door to that - police station and jail
Which you need never fear
So long as you're white, protestant and male
and make at least fifty-thousand a year

At the top of the hill there is Small Town High
where the children’s minds are honed
After four years here which are easy as pie
They either leave forever or become mindless drones

So, welcome to Small Town, home of the meek
it’s a simplier time
And if you harbour no desire to be unique
Your life here will be simply sublime
