A Silent Vigil

Sitting beside a bed,
Looking at you,
And holding your hand;
A silent vigil.

A solitary tear,
Works its way,
Down my face:
A silent vigil.

Wishing for more,
Time to talk to you,
And tell you what,
I feel I need to:
A silent vigil.

Let’s go down,
Don’t you wanna go down,
Down to the river,
To pray?
A silent vigil.

What I do fear,
Is that you yurned to hear,
Of whom and what I hold dear;
A silent vigil.

A man I know,
All too well,
But not as I feel I should;
A silent vigil.

Sitting on a bench,
Listening to the creek,
Silent compassion,
Free indeed:
A silent vigil.

Of all the things,
I’ve known and cared for,
None are as precious,
As the one with which I shared,
A silent vigil.
