Health Information Management is the study of the utilization of Medical Records. This includes coding, transciption, record analysis, risk management (lawsuits), and management of a medical record department. Average starting salary for someone in this major is 30,000$ a year, only two schools in North Carolina offer this major, Western Carolina University and Eastern Carolina University, our professional association is called AHIMA (American Health Information Association). This is a very interesting and exciting field. I would encourage everyone to learn about the medical records department in their hospital.
