Karl Louis Opitz } PETITION
for Admission to Citizenship of the United States of America.

Now comes Karl Louis Opitz and respectfully represents to the Court that he is an alien, and a subject of the Emperor of Germany ; that he was born on or about the 29 day of Dec. 1851, at the Village of Limbach in Germany ; that he first arrived in the United States on or about the 13 day of July 1883; that on or about the 12th day of May 1887 he duly declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States of America, the certificate of such declaration being hereto attached, marked Exhibit "A," and made a part hereof; that he has never borne any hereditary title, or been of any of the orders of nobility in the Country from which he came; that he has never been confined in any penal institution of this State, or any of the United States, under sentence of any Court therein; that he is a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same; that he is, by occupation, a Carpenter and now resides at 22 Merchant Ave. Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Wherefore, your petitioner prays, that on the final hearing of this petition he may be admitted to all the rights and privileges of a naturalized citizen of the United States.

PROBATE COURT OF CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OHIO


BE IT REMEMBERED, that on the 12th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty seven Karl Louis Opitz an alien and native of Germany personally appeared before me, DANIEL R. TILDEN, Judge of the Probate Court of Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and declared on his solemn oath that he first arrived in the United States in the month of July A. D. 1883, and that it is his bona fide intention to become a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to William I Emperor of whom he is a subject, and subscribed his name to said declaration, which remains of record in my office.

In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name officially, and affixed the seal of said Court, at the City of Cleveland, this 12th day of May A. D., 1887.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, ss. } I, Karl Louis Opitz being duly sworn according to law say, that the facts stated, and allegations contained in my foregoing petition are true as I verily believe, and I solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty; and particularly to William II Emporer of whom I was before a subject, so help me God.
