In the Name of God, I John CARROWAN of the State of North Carolina & County of Hyde, being infirm in body but in sound and disposing mind & memory do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in form following that is to say I give and recomend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recomend to the earth to be desently intered at the discretion of my Executors and further touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with I will and bequeath to my eldest son Joseph CARROWAN one half of all my land and my desire is that he shall have that part of the land whereon my dwelling house now stands together with all the benefits and privileges unto the said land belonging.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son Ephriam CARROWON the halfe of all my lands my desire being that he shall have the westermost end of my land joining Peter SERMAN pattent and with all the privileges thereunto appertaining.
Item: I give and bequeath to Daughter Mary CARROWAN one feather bed and furniture and my will is that the bed and furniture so desposed of shall be deemed so much the portion that falleth to her and not that she should have that much over and above her eaquel part as shall be hereafter mentioned.
Item: I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Frances CARROWAN all and singular my real & personable estate during her widowhood & no longer and if it should so happen that she should marry my will is that all my estate which is not already disposed of to my two sons Joseph & Ephriam CARROWAN and my Daughter Mary CARROWAN shall be brought to an apprasement or if my wife dies in widowhood that it be brought to an apprasement and eaquelly divided among my children, Joseph & Ephraim CARROWAN excluded, those parts being already given and lastly I do constitute and ordain and appoint my wife Frances CARROWAN Executrix & my son Joseph CARROWAN Execur. of this my Last Will and Testament. I do hereby revoke and disanul all and every other former Testament or Will by me made ratifying and confirming this to be last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of October One Thousand Seven Hundred & Eighty Two.

Hyde County February Term 1791This Last Will and Testament of Jno. CARROWAN was exhibited into Court & proved by the oath of Israel WATSON and evidence thereto who swore that he beleived the testator was of a sound disposing mind and memory at the time of his executing the same and that he saw Timothy MURREY & Joseph CARROWAN sign with him as subscribing witnesses ordered to be recorded.
