Mrs. Lizzie Potter Carawan, age 81, Swan Quarter, died Thursday morning in Pungo District Hospital Belhaven, following an illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Carawan was born in Lowland, June 22, 1892, daughter of the late Malachi and Sophia Credle Potter. She was married to Rufus A. Carawan who preceded her in death in April 1968.
Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Irene Brown of Swan Quarter; six sons, Emmitt Carawan of Swan Quarter, Percy Carawan of Kitty Hawk, Mack Carawan of Engelhard, Poe Carawan of Salisbury, Wilfred Carawan of Forest, Va., Guyon Carawan of Buena Vista, Va.; and one brother, Buell Potter of Lowland; 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday in McGowan Cemetery in Lowland, by Rev. A. B. Holloman, pastor of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Swan Quarter.
