Flame Dance
the candle burns brightly
it is the only thing visible in the darkness
can you see the flame dancing?
moving to the beat in the music softly playing in the background
swaying to one side
then the other
never the same pattern
the flame grows dim all of a sudden
you think it is going to go out
but just when it looks like it will die never to dance again
it burns stronger and brighter
til it is once again bright
the shadows dance on the wall flickering a little
like the flame
growing dim
then bright again
the little flame quivers as if scared
flickering a bit
then threatening to go out
a sudden burst of air startles the flame
it looks as if it is running away from the swift and unseen air that snuck up on it
the flame calms down and returns to its normal flickering
and swaying motions
to the beat of the rhythym
and in the eternal darkness
of the night
