It Sometimes Takes Time

(this title could easily change at any moment)

Here's an excerpt from a story I've written. Let me know what you think of it, and maybe I'll put more on, but for now, this should keep ya in suspense!

Brandon Walters took the last swig of his coffee that had sat on his desk the entire day. He glanced at the clock on the wall. Four fifty-nine. No, wait. Yes! Five o' clock! Another mindless day in the rushing business world was over. Now he could go home to his empty apartment and do nothing. Sound like fun? Not to Brandon, who thought his life had no excitement whatsoever. He worked all day, watched T.V. all night. His family wasn't nearby the city of Marshway, where Brandon lived, and sometimes he and his friends were too busy to get together to do anything.

But what he wanted most of all was that special someone, that he could spend the rest of his life with, and share every feeling with. He dated occasionally, but never got that special feeling inside of him. Deep inside, he would know when the right one came along.

Heaving a deep, exasperating sigh, he grabbed his business jacket from the chair, threw the styrofoam coffee cup away, and walked out of his never-changing office. Everything was so routine! Although Brandon did have a number of happy moments, he was very lonely and unhappy. The year of 1986 just wasn't working out for him.

Before reaching the elevator, Jacob Newton and Issac Felder, Brandon's two best friends, came barreling into view. Rolling his eyes, Brandon pushed the "down" button and waited patiently.

"Hey, Oat-Bran-don!" Jacob called out as they skidded to a halt in front of the elevator, using their favorite nickname for Brandon. He loved health food, so the name fit perfectly. "Wanna go out with us tonight and get footloose?"

"Uh, I don't know, guys. Besides, I thought you had plans already, Issac."

Issac shook his head. "Naw, my plans were switched. Now I can hang with my buds," he said, slapping Jacob on the back.

Brandon thought for a moment. This is why I haven't an exciting life, he thought. I always hesitate and usually turn down offers. Well, this time will be different. "Sure guys, I'd love to go. Where to?"

"Music Station. That new dance nightclub over near Issac's place. It's awesome there," Jacob explained.

"Weeeelll-"

"Oh, you'll love it, Bran. Once you check out how "mini" those miniskirts are on the girls, you'll be hooked. And there are many of them!" Issac laughed, looking a little sheepish. "Just kidding. Besides, it's not wild at all, and they don't allow smoking or alcohol. They also play some awesome music."

"What do you say, Bran?" Jacob questioned.

Brandon looked at his smiling friends and gave in. "Oh, alright. What have I got to lose?"

"Nothing Brandon! Absolutely nothing," Jacob enthused.

Jacob couldn't have been more right!

I hope that's enough to keep your interest for now. Keep checking back and you might see more!
