Okay everyone! This page is a VERY DETAILED description of the dc Talk concert at Independence Arena in Charlotte, NC on Jan. 30, 1999. See, told ya it was
detailed. For all of you impatiently waiting to see them in concert, it's worth the wait! It ROCKED, and it was very LOUD!
Unfortunately, my pics didn't turn out, but I'm seeing them again in March so
I'll be sure to get some good ones then! Why don't I start at the beginning:
---------------------------------------------------------
It was me, my best friend Heather, my friend Leah(a.k.a Mooga for you chatters out there), and her sister Hannah. We were probably the
loudest ones there! We were screaming our heads off all night, and constantly singing dct songs. We were
sooooooooo psyched. The W's came out first and they were pretty good. "You are the devil and the devil is bad!"
Then Jennifer Knapp came out, or as we said it, K-napp. Yes, we do know how to
pronounce it. She was good, too. They did about five songs each, and by then, we were
really ready for dc Talk. And then........the lights dimmed.......and they had this really
cool video thing w/ like, disco/techno type music playing, with a few "supernaturals" mixed in.
They showed on the screen, "God is here and He is watching", which is also on the tour
T-shirt I got. THEN......they started coming out and I was having "a freak attack". :0)
They were soooooooo awesome!!!!! Btw, Kevin did dye his hair brown, but it looks
really good. The only problem was that there were moments, esp. in the
beginning of the concert, where you couldn't hear them very well. You heard more of
the instruments, but it was still cool. They played for about 2 and a 1/2 hrs.!!
They did every song off of Supernatural except for Fearless and The Truth. They did
a lot of Jesus Freak songs, too. The ones from the older cd's were mostly just
in chunks. Here is the list of what they did, whether sung all the way through or
not:
Here's how they started:
--Dive(first song done)
--Jesus is Just Alright
--Hello Goodbye(by the Beatles. Can you guess what's next?)
--It's Killing Me
The rest in RANDOM, GENERIC order(I can't remember the EXACT order):
--Colored People
--Day by Day
--In the Light
--Just Between You and Me(they played the video behind them, and at the end, everyone
screamed, "What's in the box?!" But they didn't say...bummer.)
--What If I Stumble
--Consume Me
--My Friend(So Long)
--Godsend
--Wanna Be Loved(threw in some K.C. & the Sunshine Band songs here: That's the Way I Like It(is that the title),
etc.)
--Since I Met You
--Into Jesus
--"praise medley"(what I call it)-consisted of My Will, Greensleeves(???), sort of How Great Thou Art, something about Praise 40(???),
My Deliverer, and Awesome God
--the dj was playing a couple of old dct songs, like That Kinda Girl and etc., and that was cool...the guys were
just standing on the side
--Heavenbound
--Nu Thang
--the rap that ends "and so deep, I'll be a freak for life"...don't know the title, or maybe it doesn't have one
--Supernatural(this was the last regular song of the concert...after that, it got dark, they left the stage,
and everyone screamed and cheered and banged their chairs for a few minutes.
It was so loud, I had to cover my ears, but I was screaming too)
Encore:
--Red Letters
--Jesus Freak(everyone was ready for this one. Near the end of the song, we got
in the aisle closer to the front, and stayed there till the end. I guess at that
point, the security guards didn't care)
After Jesus Freak, they were all leaving, and Toby came back out. He started telling the
story of how he got saved, and how you can get saved too. I couldn't possibly say
it as awesome as he did, but it was a really great invitation. Then it ended, and
we were still completely excited.
The windows of the arena were steamed up when we were coming out! I'm sure everyone was burning up, I know we were. We made it outside, and were about to leave, when we saw where the buses were. We decided to get down there as close as we could. There was already a small crowd, but we kept getting closer and closer to the gate. We ended up being out in the cold for about 2 hrs., but it was worth it bc WE MET KEVIN AND MICHAEL!!!!!!!! I still can't get over it!! Kevin came out first, and he signed my Supernatural cd and a picture, and he asked me what my name was! Later, Michael came out and did the same, and it was just so cool!!!!! You're probably thinking, "Where was Toby?" Well, we kept waiting and waiting for him to come out, until someone came and said he'd fallen asleep. Almost everyone else had already come out. We saw the W's come out, Mark Townsend, the dj, and Sugar Bear. We were really bummed that we couldn't see Toby, but completely excited that we met Kevin and Michael!! Besides, I'm seeing them again in March, so I'll get Toby's autograph then! Anyway, then we left the arena, still screaming.
That was the amazing, DETAILED night. CYA!!
