Guide to FFRP and mIRC

Welcome to the Raven's Eye! Chances are, if you're here, you're curious as to what FFRP and mIRC are.

First of all, let me start by saying that #ravens*eye is located on the Starchat family of servers on mIRC. mIRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. You can get detailed help files as well as the latest version of mIRC by clicking here

Second of all, FFRP (free form role playing) is a gift that we all possess but rarely use. When you RP (role play), you slip into a fantasy realm as a character that you create. You control every aspect of this character. It can be as powerful or as normal as you desire. In essence, you become the character.

As with all "games" (and I use the term loosely), there have to be guidelines in order for the RPing to run smoothly. Every channel on mIRC has its own rules. Listed below are the rules of the Raven's Eye along with some helpful suggestions for FFRP channels on mIRC.

1) Be creative: The only limit is your imagination. If you're new to FFRP, then perhaps you should portray a normal character with little or no magical abilities. Once you actually start RPing, you'll get accustomed to how things run and the way different things happen. You'll soon feel more at ease while playing. Then either create another character or just have your present character discover some hidden talent. The choice is yours.

2) Be original: Try to create your own character name and abilities. While being a knight called Lancelot or being a Jedi are really cool, they've already been done.

3) No power gaming: In other words, when you declare an attack or other action concerning another character, you must say that you are "trying" or "attempting" or other such words as it is the other player's choice as to whether or not you succeed. If you declare that you walk up and chop someone to pieces, you'll most likely be ignored.

4) Listen to the ops of the channel: This means just what it says. The ops are there to make sure that things run smoothly. So if one of them asks you to do something, don't be a goof-tatter, just do it. Also, if you have a question or suggestion, feel free to query one of the ops; they'll be happy to listen.

5) Remember that as long as you're in the channel, that you're playing as your character. Put any out of character ((ooc)) comments in parenthesis.

6) Language and Violence: Most likely there will be strong or adult language in the channel. The ops are lenient with the language. Yet there is still one phrase that we will not tolerate, even though we may or may not say it in RL (real life), we do not know who might come in the channel and be offended by it. Do Not take the lords name in vane and add a damn to it, some people are very offended by that. So don't. As for Violence, there will most likely be times that there will be fights taking place in the #Ravens*eye channel, and most likely they may or may not get into detail with what is seen. That is up to the desecration of the ones participating in the fight. If this may offend you, then perhaps it would be best if you went to another FFRP channel. If it does not, all are welcome.

7)Fighting: it is allowed in the #Ravens*Eye or in the #Ravens_Courtyard.... but your character will take hits everynow and then... if you do not... the dice -WILL- be used... or you will take the fight away from the ravens chans completly!

8) Also remember that the #Ravens*Eye is Medieval Free Form Role Playing channel, not Sci-Fi, so we do not allow time travelers or futuristic stuff like that here. If you wish to play Sci-Fi, we suggest going to the Sci-Fi FFRP rooms like #Cafe_Void or some other. And also, this is a RolePlaying channel, it is not here for chat.

9) This is not the Skylords channel, so there is definately no cybering/sex allowed within the channel. If you wish to do that, make your own chan and do it there. If such thing is done within the #Ravens*Eye, it will result in a ban.

10) As for Idling. I could care less. As long as there are times you actually do go IC and do a little Role Playing, but if you're just going to idle with no RP... uhhh... no....

And we also have special rules for those who wish to play vampires here at the raven as well... they are as follows...

1.) Sunlight hurts. Deal with it. If you need clearification, talk to an Op.
2.) Artifacts that allow your vamp to walk in sunlight..... refer to 'John Carpenters: Vampires'. If you need clearification, talk to an Op.
3.) An attack on the heart, if sucessful, should indeed leave a vampire in a state of tor por (aka suspended animation)

4.) Pick a clan and stick with it. here are some links to webpages about Vampire Clans. http://www.geocities.com/sandiegopbem/clans.html -=- http://members.tripod.com/~vixvix/clans.html -=- more will be added in time

5.) No one does ANYTHING to another character without their approval EX: No killing, no embracing without the mun's consent that they wish to end that character.....It will be considered powergaming... unless a death match was declared by both parties with the use of dice script
6.) If you know about vampires, you should know of "The Masquerade". So please stick to that.
