DUPONT STATE FOREST

On October 23, 2000 the North Carolina Council of Sate voted to invoke eminent domain, and force a developer to sell 2200 acres of land that sits on the Transylvania/Henderson county line. This property was completely surrounded by the DuPont State Forest and will now become part of that forest. This action is a great victory for the people of North Carolina and everyone that loves the great outdoors.

The Dupont State Forest will now contain some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Western North Carolina, and will be preserved for generations of North Carolinians, and our visitors. Special thanks to Governor Hunt, Attorney General Mike Easley, and the Council of State members for the courage to make the right decision. Also to the thousands of people form across the state and the nation that voiced thier opinion that this natural treasure should be preserved and protected.
