Chapter 6 Realize It “Oof … ouch, what was that?” Chris whined from the floor, pushing a suitcase off from him.

“That was a bump, buddy,” JC told him, helping Chris move it suitcase.

“That was a bump that caused something to give me internal injuries,” he complained.

“You’re funny.”

Chris smiled. “I know.”

He sat up, and closed the suitcase. He knew from the clothes that it was Timber’s.

“You guys, come on, we’re eating, and Joey won’t let me at the food ’til you’re out here!” a whiny voice called.

JC left the back lounge first, then Chris pulled himself up and noticed a file folder laying on the floor. Thinking it wasn’t anything too important, he picked it up, took a paper out and started reading.

Desirae,
Why are you not staying here? I mean, after graduation? You don’t need to leave. Stay here. Don’t go to California. Okay, well, that’s it, I just wanted to ask you if you were leaving. Okay, then. See you whenever.
CA

Desirae … I, I’ve heard that name before … and the signature looks familar …

“Chris, come on, unless you’re standing there all day,” Lance said, sticking his head into the same room as Chris.

“Yeah, I’m coming,” he said, putting the letter back into the file and sticking it in his bunk.

Chris sat down next to Lance and Justin and started slurping up spaghetti that Joey had made the night before.

“Yum,” a chorus of voices raved.

“I know. I’m just so good,” Joey said, basking in his own glow.

“Yeah, right,” Justin and Chris said, throwing some at him.

“Guys, don’t screw up the bus,” Jeff’s voice warned.

Chris normally would’ve argued.

But he was racking his brain for where he’d seen that name and where he’d seen the handwriting in general.
