In the Hollywood hills on the boulevard
Her parents threw big parties, and everyone was there
They hung out with folks like Dennis Hopper and, Bob Seeger and, Sonny and Cher
She feels safe now in this bar on Fairfax
And from the stage I can tell that she can't let go and she can't relax
And just before she hangs her head to cry
I sing to her a lullaby, I sing
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Rockabye
She still lives with her mom
Outside the city
Down that street about a half a mile
And all her friends tell her
She's so pretty
But she'd be a whole lot prettier
If she smiled once in a while
`Cause even her smile looks like a frown
She's seen her share of devils in this angel town
But, everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Rockabye
I told her I ain't so sure about this place
It's hard to play a gig in this town,
Keep a straight face
Seems like everybody's got a plan
It's kind of like Nashville, with a tan,
But, everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye, rockabye, bye, bye
Bye, bye
"Lullaby"
Written and performed by Shaun Mullins
"Damnit all, Jason."
"I'm sorry, there's just something..."
"What."
"Nothing, nevermind."
"Ohreally?"
"Yeah. Really. I might be over later."
"Okay," she said as she flipped the cell phone shut. She began playing again, when there was a knock on the dorm door.
"God, J, that didn't take... long," she said as she opened the door. "Chris." It was light as she said it, and it hung in the stiff air.
"Yes. It's me. Can I come in?"
Your parents brought you up to be polite. "Sure."
"You lied to me again."
"I didn't want to say goodbye."
"You didn't need to."
"But that's you."
"You could have just said 'bye.'"
"Like last time." Another silence came over the room.
"You lied to me, didn't you." Chris asked as a statement.
"Which time?"
"The first time."
"I went to Hawaii. Not California."
"Mmm-hmm. I know."
"How?"
"I can tell. Remember? 'You can always see—"
"Through all the lies anyway. I know. I remember. I remember." She shrugged. "It's just ... you know."
"I know. But you can't shy away from human affection forever." (Savage Garden)
She is capable of saying it. "You've said that too many times in your life. 'Bye' will suffice just fine."
"Bye." She inwardly smiled.
Chris turned and left. No where but here, he thought. No where but here.
