First off I want to say that I am not against Christianity. I am not angry about anything dealing with Christianity. Please do not take this article as an attack on Christianity. This was written as an attempt to look at Christianity and the Holy Bible logically. All I wanted to do was analyize these topics.
So I must apoligize to all of those that might come away offended thinking that this is an attack. These are my views and I do not apoligize for what I think, only the manner in which I display it.
Have you started to wonder why it is that the world's religions have began to decline in attendance and seeming importance?
Well it is simply that they have failed, and are starting to fail to keep up with an ever changing and faster paced world.
It is not the fault of the world or humanity that the world is changing it is only a natural process.
The dogmas, religious rites and even the standards by which members of a particular religion are to follow are outdated and seem silly in some respects. For instance most of the world believes that slavery is morally wrong. The Holy Bible condones such practice. The Holy Bible even condones the subornation of women as secondary persons in society, family and even the church.
Under Mosaic Law if your child were disobediant and unruley you were to take them to the edge of the city and have them stoned.
The religions of Christianity and Islam have set Moses up as an icon of rightousness but I hold many disagreements with this notion of him being a Holy man.
When the Jewish army returned from one of their pludering and murdering excursions, the account goes on as follows:
Numbers, chapter 30 verse 13
"And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp; and Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from battle; and Moses said unto them, Have ye saved the all the women alive? behold, these cause the children of Israel, through the council of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord. Now, therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and every woman that hath known a man by lying with him; but all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."There are so many stories with differant accounts that brings up questions as to the validity of the stories themselves.
This one thing is a fact, and this brings into question the entire Bible itself. No one knows for sure the identity of the authors of any of the books of the Bible. It cannot be the names of the books themselves such as the (books of Moses which are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy or the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) due to the style of the writings themselves. For example the books of Moses are all written in the third person. It is always, the Lord said unto Moses, or Moses said unto the Lord, or Moses said unto the people, or the people said unto Moses; and this is the style that historians use in speaking of persons whose lives they are writing. You may say that Moses speaks of himself in the third person but in the book of Numbers we run into a slight problem.
Numbers chapter 12 verse 3
"Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth."If this is Moses speaking about himself instead of being "meek" which means humble, he is one of the most vain men to set himself up above every man on earth and is therefore a liar and has lost all credibility and has become a unworthy host of the truth.
I question:
1) If he did not write the books then who did?
2) Whose authority are we to take these books?
3) Where is the credibility?
Carbon dating has placed the books as having been written well after the time of the accounts that the books claim to be witness to.
I will not go into every area of the Holy Bible (and there are hundreds) that have contraditions and differing accounts of the same story.
Some will say that differant people observing one event will recollect it differantly.
I could not agree more with this but, we are not talking about a traffic accident or a thug robbing the local convience store. We are talking about eternity and where your soul will reside forever.
On a second note to that notion of differant recollections of the same event if this (the Holy Bible) is the "Word of God" if then, God is without flaw and perfect. Even though it is coming from the hands of men, then what He (God) is telling mankind should be without flaw and also perfect.
It is not to much to ask if we only have one shot at living right and finding out what the truth is before we die. Because the consequences of not knowing the truth is that we will burn in hell (according to Christianity).
I would think that it better be right and perfect (if God cares about the souls of mankind). I would go so far as to say that it should not even be debatable among mere mortal men.
The purpose of this thesis is not to teach a position against the Holy Bible but, if you have questions, I have put this here to offer you an alternative way of thinking and possibly give you some answers.
Here is an interesting but long thesis on "Quantum Therory" which is the breaking edge of science. It is complex but, if you continue to read it you will grasp some, if not most, or even all of what is being said. The consequences are far reaching and amazing and will allow you to come to a differant view on how the Universe operates.
I have set it up so that you can read a page and come back at a differant time and go directly to the next page because of the length of it.
I was raised in a Protestant religion but, I began questioning what I was told to believe not because I do not respect my parents or their beliefs. I simply want to know that what I was being told was correct.
It is the nature of all mankind to find the answers to questions that plague us. It is also the nature of mankind to be stuborn and fearful of change and to proud to admit when our view may be wrong. So this is why I don't feel a need to push this on anyone.
I subscribe to Buddhism because it is so tolerant of others and gives answers to questions that I have.
The Buddha some 2500 years ago was discovering through meditation and has reflected in his teachings some of what scientists are learning about the Universe today "ie.Quantum Theory".
Buddhism encourages you to seek and test what is called the truth even the Buddha's teachings themselves.
Well, I hope that you endeavor in your search for the truth and enjoy your study of it.
