Great International News! I have been selected to join a group of 200 US Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholars for 3 weeks in Japan, June 13 - July 3, 1999. We will do some general touring and then visit schools and stay in a local community. I hope to videotape the land, people, and schools. I will be looking for teachers and students who are interested in beginning an exchange with James Kenan High. I hope to meet my web page partner teacher from Hamamatsu Kita H.S., Mrs. Tomie Osawa. See http://www.glocomnet.or.jp/fmf for more about the Fulbright Memorial Fund. Also, I have been selected as 1 of 28 US teachers to receive the US/NIS Awards for Excellence in Teaching. We will gather at a conference "Celebrating Teaching Excellence Across Cultures" in Delaware this summer. Then in October I will travel to a host teacher's school and community in Uzbekistan, one of the NIS that used to be part of the Soviet Union. Hopefully we will spend the 2 weeks in October learning about our different cultures and developing more excellent ways of teaching English to our students.
