WELCOME TO JILL'S ZOO!

I have always loved animals. I seem to attract them. If there's a homeless animal anywhere near it will surely find me. I think my name and address are written on some kitty litter box somewhere. Needless to say, over the years I have acquired quite a variety of critters. I love them all and would love to be able to take them all in. I have a dream of someday owning a large farm and taking in animals who are homeless, neglected and abused. For now I'll just continue on with my zoo and do all I can.

I'll introduce my current menagerie:

HE IS YOUR FRIEND, YOUR PARTNER, YOUR DEFENDER, YOUR DOG. YOU ARE HIS LIFE, HIS LOVE, HIS LEADER. HE WILL BE YOURS, FAITHFUL AND TRUE, TO THE LAST BEAT OF HIS HEART. YOU OWE IT TO HIM TO BE WORTHY OF SUCH DEVOTION--UNKNOWN

THE DOGS:

Hershel- "Big Brother" He is a 6 year old Black Lab/Greyhound mix. Hershel just showed up during a snow storm when he was about 9 months old. He was skin and bones. He is an 80 lb. baby who loves his ball (a miniature basketball). He has been to obedience school and is very well-behaved. Hershel is the top dog and doesn't let the other dogs get by with anything. He is definitely in charge. On Thanksgiving Day, 1997 Hershel was shot in the tail by deer hunters. He had a real hard time, but he's healed now and you can only see the scar if you look closely. He's a real trooper!

Howie- "Old Man" He is a 10 year old Pomeranian/Spitz mix. Howie has no sense of humor and cannot bear for the other dogs to have fun. He gets in the middle of any fun and acts ferocious...it's almost funny because he's the smallest dog (but he doesn't know that). Howie loves to fetch and he's pretty good at it. He loves people and I think he secretly wants to be the only dog. Howie lost his best friend, Jake, on Thanksgiving Day, 1997. Jake and Howie had grown up together. Howie is recovering from a great loss, as we all are.

Trent- "Baby" He is a 2 year old Black Lab mix. My neighbors got Trent at a flea market. He was such a mischievous puppy that they soon tired of him. I had fallen in love the first time I saw him. He began staying at my house more and more until he just moved in. He really was a bad puppy! Trent went to obedience school and now that he's matured he really is a good dog. He's about 75 pounds now but still likes to get in my lap.

Luke- "Little Brother" He is a 1 year old Sheltie/Border Collie mix. One of my vet's assistants found Luke wandering around the middle of a highway and took him in. While at the vet one day I saw Luke and it was love at first sight. He looks like Murray on "Mad About You". He went home with me that day. Luke fit right in to our family. He went to obedience school and is doing great.

THERE IS NO SNOOZE BUTTON ON A CAT WHO WANTS BREAKFAST--ANONYMOUS

ONE CAT JUST LEADS TO ANOTHER--ERNEST HEMINGWAY

THE CATS:

Twana and Isaac- 10 years ago I found Twana wandering the streets. I brought her home with with and soon discovered that she was pregnant. She had 6 kittens. Isaac is her son. He just turned 9. Twana really doesn't like other cats and she lives in a hay barn down the road. She comes home to eat about 3 times a week and goes back to her barn. Isaac is a great hunter. He loves to drop off his kill right in front of the back door so I won't miss it! Yuck!

Nicole, Rosie and Squirrel Cat- 10 years ago I found Nicole wandering the streets at about the same time I found Twana. I took Nicole home who I soon discovered was also pregnant. Three weeks after Twana had 6 kittens Nicole had 5 kittens. They helped each other with the parenting responsibilites, even nursing each others kittens. Rosie and Squirrel Cat are two of Nicole's kittens who just turned 9. Rosie is a yellow tabby who is very shy. Squirrel Cat is a gray tortoise shell who is anything but shy.

Thomas and Tabitha- Brother and sister who are 9 years old. Some good friends of mine had taken home a pregnant stray and needed to find homes. Being the sucker that I am I told them I'd take one kitten. When I went to get the kitten these two little tabbies were inseparable. I couldn't part them so I took them both. Thomas is huge and demanding. Tabitha is tiny and shy.

Stevie Wonder- I found Stevie in my basement. I have no idea where he came from or how he got there. When I first saw him I was horrified. He continually shook his head from side to side. I immediately took him to the vet with every intention of having him put to sleep. The vet examined him and found that he had a neurological condition and was blind in one eye, but was healthy. During the entire examination, Stevie purred like a diesel engine. I fell in love and took him home. He is the happiest cat I've ever known and still can purr like a diesel. He is one unique cat!!!

IF YOU HAVE MEN WHO WILL EXCLUDE ANY OF GOD'S CREATURES FROM THE SHELTER OF COMPASSION AND PITY, YOU WILL HAVE MEN WHO WILL DEAL LIKEWISE WITH THEIR FELLOW MEN--ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

THE PYGMY GOATS:

Andrew- "Buffalo Boy" Andrew is my buck..the big daddy. He is quite gentle for a buck. He looks like a little black buffalo. He became the father of twin boys in April...Oliver and Xavier. Andrew is looking forward to breeding this Fall. Right now he's not a happy goat, but he will be soon. He is a registered pygmy goat.

Annie, Oliver and Xavier- Annie was my first goat. She's very special to me. She kidded for the first time on April 20, 1998 and delivered two healthy boys. Oliver looks a lot like Annie and is "Mr. Personality". Xavier looks just like Andrew and is sweet, but more independent than Oliver.

Sara and April- Sara is very small and cute. She is spunky and very vocal. She kidded for the first time on April 22, 1998 and delivered TRIPLETS!!! I sold two of her babies, Prima and Sophie. I'm keeping April. April is black with white on her side and very loving. She's small like her mom.

Solomon- He is a wether (castrated male). Solomon is extremely handsome...snow white. He loves all the attention he gets...in fact..he demands attention. Solomon is just a big old baby that loves to have his chest scratched. Solomon thinks he's in charge while Andrew is separated from the girls. He keeps everybody in line.

I also have 18 chickens. Mostly Rhode Island Reds. We keep them as pets and get their eggs. No chicken killing here!!!

IF YOU PICK UP A STARVING DOG AND MAKE HIM PROSPEROUS, HE WILL NOT BITE YOU; THAT IS THE PRINCIPAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DOG AND A MAN.--MARK TWAIN

THE ONE ABSOLUTELY UNSELFISH FRIEND THAT MAN CAN HAVE IN THIS SELFISH WORLD, THE ONE THAT NEVER DESERTS HIM, THE ONE THAT NEVER PROVES UNGRATEFUL OR TREACHEROUS, IS HIS DOG....HE WILL KISS THE HAND THAT HAD NO FOOD TO OFFER; HE WILL LICK THE WOUNDS AND SORES THAT COME IN ENCOUNTER WITH THE ROUGHNESS OF THE WORLD...WHEN ALL OTHER FRIENDS DESERT, HE REMAINS.--GEORGE G.
