National Guard Armory, Burlington, NC

Coastal Championship Wrestling was back at the National Guard Armory in Asheboro, NC on Friday night, July 27th, for a big card headlined by a steel cage match featuring the Rock N Roll Express.

To kick things off, "the incredible" Jade took on "the Original Freak Show" Nemesis in a two out of three falls intergender match-up. The Other Dark Meat, Gotti, unfortunately missed the show. Nemesis attempted to start early by charging at Jade with a chair, but the chair was abruptly kicked into his face. Jade covered Nemesis for the quick victory to take the first fall. Nemesis was able to even things up however, after hooking one of Jade's arms and hitting almost a reverse neckbreaker, to take the second fall. The two fought competitively in the third and deciding fall before Jade surprised Nemesis with a roll-up for the victory.

The Confederates, Redneck Danny Roland and the Rebel, were up next to take on Les Parker and Downtown Willie Brown for the vacant CCW Tag Team Titles. Parker pulled out the ole' brass knucks and attempted to ko the Confederates, but Brown stopped him, and ended up getting hit with the knucks himself. Brown was then pinned by Roland after a flying elbowdrop from the top to give the titles to the Confederates. After the match, a disgruntled Brown challenged CCW Eastern States Champion Cham Pain to a match for the return date to Asheboro.

Loose Cannon Mike Gunner and Flex Phenom brought out their partner "Nuthouse" Schwanz, taking the place of a tardy Manny Fernandez tonight in the cage main event. Gunner also said that he had gotten word Ivan Koloff and his prized pupil Boris Dragoff were planning some type of "invasion" for the September 14th CCW event, and even though he didn't need the fans support, he would be there to meet the Russians head on.

CCW Eastern States Champion Cham Pain defeated Jason Gibson by DQ to retain his title. Pain just schooled Gibson here, hitting a gorgeous Russian legsweep out of nowhere and a running clothesline over the top to the floor. Pain attempted a springboard somersault plancha but missed, and Gibson took to the air for an attempted top-rope maneuver, but was met by Willie Brown, who struck Gibson with a chair, causing the DQ. Pain and Brown had a second confrontation after the match.

Up next, in an I Quit match for the vacant CCW Heavyweight Title, Flex Phenom won the title in controversial fashion over The Beastmaster Rick Link. Link hooked Phenom in submission holds several times throughout the contest and seemed to have the match well within his grasp when the referee was bumped late in the bout. Link took Phenom down again and locked on a Cripp…uh, Beastmaster Crossface which finally got the words "I Quit" out of Phenom. The referee was still down, so Link revived him briefly, then grabbed Phenom again, this time in an ankle lock, and once again got a submission, but Schwanz and Gunner hit the ring, attacking the bloodied Beastmaster. Flex locked on a Boston crab and the referee called for the bell and awarded the title to Phenom, saying that Link's arm had risen and fallen three times, thus, signifying a submission. Link denied ever even being asked by the official and screamed of a "screw job", so he challenged Phenom to a lumberjack match for September 14th to ensure no outside interference.

In the main event, the steel cage was erected as Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, the Rock N Roll Express took on Loose Cannon Mike Gunner and "Nuthouse" Schwanz. Gunner and Gibson started the match, with Gunner trying to taunt Gibson, but the veteran was not to be intimidated. Morton was eventually tagged in and was pounded on for much of the contest, including a nice delayed vertical suplex from Gunner. Gunner and Schwanz took turns controlling Morton and if you don't know what that was leading up to, you have no business reading this…HOT TAG TO GIBSON!!! Moments later, Gunner was pinned following the trademarked double dropkick. Very good old school-style tag match. Schwanz looked great after spending a little over a year in the WWF developmental territories, and Morton is still among the best babyfaces I have ever seen. Good match to close a solid show. CCW returns to Asheboro on September 14th, presumably with Ivan Koloff and Boris Dragoff facing Mike Gunner and a partner, Cham Pain vs Willie Brown, and Rick Link in a lumberjack match against Flex Phenom.
