Riders in the Country, Greensboro, NC

RCW Wrestling returned to Riders in the Country on Sunday night, July 22nd, going head-to-head with the "Invasion" pay-per-view, but the overpriced antics of Vince and Stephanie McMahon was the last thing on the minds of the rowdy crowd at Riders. The evening opened on a somber note as the entire RCW lockerroom surrounded the ring. Ring announcer Randolph Hedrick informed the crowd of the unfortunate passing of Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy six days prior, as Rob the Bull McBride, his wife Reba, and Fair Warning vocalist Brian Hall unfolded a confederate flag in the center of the ring. With Lynyrd Skynryd's "Freebird" in the background, Hedrick tolled the bell ten times in memory of Gordy and proclaimed that "the Freebird lived on". Very classy tribute to open the show.

Rob McBride and Brian Hall re-entered the ring a few moments later to open the show, but were interrupted by Slick Ric and Lumbee. The Gigolo and Corey Edsel eventually joined them and with Edsel keeping Hall trapped in the opposite corner the other three men beat down McBride. Rob McBride Jr. hit the ring, but served only to join in on the beatdown being administered to his father. The Bull was stretchered out before the stunned crowd.

Rob McBride Jr. returned amidst a chorus of boos from the crowd to take on Paco Loco. Loco is insane. Good highspots in this match-up that got the crowd riled early on. Good choice for the opener. Paco picked up the victory after

Max Cortez, accompanied by Ms. Felony was out next to take on Redd, in a match set up the previous evening at the Up next we had a battle of the "Wild Things" as "Wild Thang" Tim Cheek took on "Wild Thing" Larry Isley. The two men took it to the outside early on in this stiff, hard-hitting contest, which was eventually ruled a double count-out. The debate over the true "Wild Thing" continues.

Slick Ric and Lumbee, two-thirds of the New School Wrecking Crew along with some other guy who's not worth mentioning, made their way to the ring accompanied by Special K for their RCW Tag Title match against the Redneck Pimp Daddies, Rob McBride and Brian Hall. It was thought that Hall might have to go it alone, but McBride returned to the ringside, with his head bandaged and joined his partner. Ric and Lumbee did a good job of keeping one man isolated for much of the match. Hall became distracted by a masked man who kept circling the ring and eventually chased him off as the Bull was double-teamed. When Hall finally made it back to the ring, Ric and Lumbee were able to double-team him as well, but Hall was injured by a flying stump puller from Lumbee. As Brian lay prone in the ring being tended to by EMTs and his partner, the crowd fumed at Lumbee and Ric. Brian was eventually stretchered out so McBride was forced to go it alone for the remainder of the match. McBride did a good job keeping his opponents under control and seemed to have the match all but won after duel Saturday Night Superstars to both opponents, but the ref was bumped off the second Superstar and unable to make the count. The masked man from earlier in the evening hit the ring and appeared to load up his boot with something, and then kicked McBride in the back of the head. He rolled Lumbee on top and slid the referee back into the ring, who made the three count, awarding Slick Ric and Lumbee the RCW Tag Team champions before the stunned crowd.

In another special attraction, co-commissioner Tiny (who doubles as Riders in-house DJ) defeated co-commissioner Cool Daddy in a two out of three arm wrestling challenge to become the undisputed commissioner of RCW. Cool Daddy got in Tiny's face after the match so Tiny dropped him with a DDT to a great crowd response.

Up next was a tag team three-way-dance as "Iceman" Joe Storm and Sebastian Kane, who entered the ring to the chords of "Badstreet, U.S.A." in honor of Terry Gordy, took on the Southside Playas, and Psychos for Hire. Match was fast-paced with all six men getting involved on more than one occasion. LA Ca$h surprised Storm with an inside cradle to eliminate Mass Destruction. Ca$h however was caught by the Psychos in their powerbomb/top-rope clothesline combination moments later and pinned, giving the win to Bam and Crazyman. There still appears to be much left unsettled between these two great teams.

Due to circumstances beyond the control of RCW management, Ricky Morton was unable to make his scheduled meeting with Corey Edsel. Morton, who had appeared the night before Riders at a show in Galveston, Texas, was believed to have travel complications and did not make it to building on time. Edsel and the Gigolo were all smiles as they instructed the referee to begin administering the mandatory ten count, which he did, before awarding the match via a forfeit to Edsel. However, it was not going to be *that* easy for the big man, as the Dukes of Hazard theme started up, and Rob the Bull McBride, still bandaged up from his previous two encounters, entered the ring. McBride said he would take the place of the absent Morton and win the RCW Heavyweight championship for his injured partner Brian Hall. Commissioner Tiny said he'd allow it, and Edsel very reluctantly locked up with the Bull. The two men continued their feud with both men pulling new moves out of their arsenal, including a tornado DDT from Edsel. In the end however, he was caught in the Saturday Night Superstar and McBride made the cover to win the RCW Heavyweight Title. Good match to end a wild night at Riders in the Country that in addition to two title changes and several wild matches, also included a performance earlier in the night from Brian and his bandmates Fair Warning. RCW will return to Riders at a date to be announced.
