Riders in the Country, Greensboro, NC

Sports-entertainment (God I hate that term) in the form of RCW returned to Riders in the Country once again with a card that would see the crowning of the first set of RCW champions, as well as another performance from Thomasville-based band Fair Warning.

The show opened with Fair Warning introducing their newest friend, "Pimp Daddy" Rob McBride, who announced that he had pulled some strings and gotten the members of Fair Warning into the Riders Rumble that would be held later on to determine the first RCW Heavyweight Champion. At first, Fair Warning were apprehensive to say the least, until McBride made it clear that *he* was in the battle royal also, and to make up for their past problems, he was going to help Brian Hall, the lead vocalist for the band, capture the title. The guys embraced but the fun was short-lived as Lumbee and Slick Rick, collectively known as Sudden Impact, entered the scene with mics in hand and made mention of the split that occurred between Beauty and the Beast the night before in Mocksville. This left McBride without a partner for the RCW Tag Title finals to be held that night against Sudden Impact, so McBride recruited Hall to be his partner. Brian was hesitant again, until Lumbee and Rick insulted the band and their profession, which caused Brian to step up and accept the spot as McBride's partner.

"Wild Thing" Larry Isley opened the show taking on "Heartthrob" Alan Rage. I've never claimed to be a handsome man, but I would love to know just what kind of person sees Alan Rage as a heartthrob. These two didn't mesh well together, we'll be generous and leave it at that. Isley finished Rage off with a powerbomb.

The Riders Rumble was up next, with the stipulation that the final two men would meet in a singles match later in the evening to crown the champion. Upon his entrance into the Rumble, Lumbee proceeded to chop the living crap out of everything that moved, until being stopped in his tracks by the massive Bam Bam, who entered next. The field of 20 eventually narrowed down to Sudden Impact, Brain from Fair Warning, Rob McBride, and Corey Edsel. Sudden Impact gained up on Edsel and tossed him through the middle ropes, which under normal circumstances would not eliminate him from a battle royal, but Edsel's knee crashed into the railing on the way down, injuring his leg. As Riders officials scurried to help Edsel to the back, and we were down to four. McBride and Hall eventually managed to toss both members of Sudden Impact to the floor to win the match. RCW co-commissioner Cool Daddy made his way to the ring to instruct McBride and Hall that they would *have* to face each other later in the night, or lose their Tag Title opportunity. The two finally agreed to the match seeing that they had no other viable alternatives.

Tim Blaze made his way to the ring to take on Corey Edsel. Edsel, still banged up from the battle royal took the stick and told Blaze that it wasn't too bad, and he only needed one good leg to beat the Blazeman. The two waged a back-and-fourth contest which saw Blaze counteract a charging Edsel with a surprising side-suplex for a nearfall. Edsel took Blaze down and connected the standing moonsault, but Blaze's cornerman for the night had the referee distracted. Edsel took out the cornerman, but did not realize that he had passed a police baton to Blaze, who cracked Edsel in the head with it and scored the victory. Blaze continued to pound on Corey until McBride and Hall made the save. McBride embraced the youngster and helped him to the back.

Iceman Joe Storm and Sebastian Kane, Mass Destruction entered to a chorus of boos to take on Heatwave, Sage and Redd, the 1.5 Kid ("one and a half times the man you are, 'cause your old lady said so"). I don't know much about this Sage guy, but everytime I see him, he's with a different partner. Must be a difficult guy to get along with. Some nice moves from 1.5 in this one though the more experienced Storm and the much larger Kane were on the offense for much of the contest. Eventually, Kane struck the referee, leading to a disqualification. Ending seemed to come out of no where, decent match otherwise.

Sudden Impact entered the ring, accompanied by their new manager the Riders Gigolo and were followed by McBride and Brian, who attacked early. Brian had a couple of brief flurries of offense, but let the more experienced McBride control much of the match. Lumbee and Slick Ric have really turned into a very good tag team over the last year or so and they dominated much of the match. At one point, the Gigolo attempted to interfere but was stopped by Fair Warning guitar player Jimmy Hinson, who cracked the Gigolo with a trashcan lid. Sudden Impact finally got hold of Brian and were repeatedly bashing him into the corner, and when the referee tried to break it up, he got caught up and taken down as well. With the referee down, Lumbee attempted to use a chair on the musician, only to have him duck and Lumbee crack his own partner with the chair. McBride struggled to his feet and placed Brian on top on Ric for the pinfall, but there was no referee to count. An official from Riders in the Country stormed the ring under orders of co-commissioner Tiny and made the three count to give McBride and Hall the titles.

Up next was a dream match-up as Psychos for Hire collided and Bam Bam went one-on-one with Crazyman. The two waged a very physical contest, and Crazyman held his own against his larger, more powerful partner. Bam Bam hit a very nice cradle northern lights suplex for a nearfall, but Crazyman powered out at two. Both partners charged at each other and were taken down with a double clothesline. While laying prone on the match, the referee began his customary ten count, but the two Psychos arms became intertwined on the clothesline attempt, and the two began thumb wrestling with each other, in a continuous effort to gain the upperhand. Soon, the two lost total interest in the match as they laid on the canvas thumb wrestling, totally oblivious to the referee's ten count, which ended the match as a double count out. Neat finish.

Rob the Bull and Brian from Fair Warning returned once again for the main event, which would decide the very first RCW Heavyweight Champion. The two locked up, and McBride powered Hall to his back and went for a cover. Hall however, slipped out at two and then McBride laid down for Brian, but McBride would not stay down either. Neither man wanted to fight the other, but neither man wanted to disgrace the title with a fluke victory either. The two argued briefly before Corey Edsel came to the ring to confront both men. Edsel convinced the two teammates that the title was not worth breaking up their friendship for and all three men embraced in the ring, until Edsel revealed a pair of brass knuckles and ko'ed both men. Edsel, who was never actually eliminated from the battle royal earlier felt he had legitimate claims to the title, and covered both men as referee Cool Daddy reluctantly made the count, giving the big man his first major title victory. The question remained why Edsel would betray his two friends, until the Riders Gigolo stormed the ring and shook hands with the new champion. The Gigolo, who has some type of personal vendetta against Rob McBride that has yet to be totally defined, had gotten to Edsel. The new champion was not all smiles however, as he assured Gigolo that he was due for a beating if the check didn't clear as he made a quick getaway before McBride awoke. Good angle to close a solid show.
