Cloud & Guenevere

Cloud & Guen are now retired from breeding and are spending their days playing and sleeping in their huge white, fluffy toilet paper nest. They are still very active, though. Over a span of 10 months they had nine litters of pups, varying in size from 4 to 8, amounting to a total of 48 pups! They were the most consistent breeding pair I've ever had, having pups every month but one. I'd need a break, too! They are inseparable and Cloud actually goes into a panic when Guen's not in the tank, running around in circles and looking for her. What a devoted mate!
This is the first pair of gerbils I've had since I was very young. They were brought home from a pet store on January 24, 1998, and I can only estimate that they were born in late December of 1997. Of course, they told me at the pet store that they were two females (how typical!), and on February 23 they had their first litter! But it didn't matter - I was hooked!
Cloud, the Founder of The Circle is a big black male with white front feet and a stripe running from his lower lip to his chest. He's quite a gentleman and has always been a wonderful father.
Guen, The Circle's matriarch, is a pretty lilac pied who, in her younger days, tended to be quite hyper. She has calmed down now that she's gotten older. She used to be obsessed with her wheel, which had to be removed because she would ignore her pups to run on that darned thing!
These two compliment each other in that with Guen being so hyper and somewhat scatterbrained sometimes, Cloud is just the opposite - very logical and determined. She used to run around the tank in a tizzy and he would stop her by pushing her down and grooming her. It was an amazing thing to watch - as though he were saying, "Now, now, dear . . ."
Their pups were always very sweet-tempered, and they were all either black or beautifully pied black. At one point we had this male, Nubbin who was born with a tail that was about an inch long!
