Parappa the Rapper

Opening Statements

Parappa the Rapper is one of those games that is going to be remembered no matter what. They are even going to make a sequal to the awesome game. The music actually sounds pretty good. I was afraid they were going to make the music a bunch of junk that was a disgrace to rap music, but it was actually good! The use of slang was incorporated into the game also. These people knew what they were doing.

This game is one of a kind. The best part about it is the music. You are sure to be humming or rapping at work or around the house after playing this one for a while. The beat even changes up when you are rapping BAD or AWFUL. The rapping scale is easy to get a hang of. You get used to what needs to be done to rap good or cool. The game can put your skill to the test. The graphics are a little wierd, but this was obviously done on purpose. They had an artist come in and draw the characters to look funny. They are 2D cut-outs in 3D enviornments. The gameplay doesn't seem like someting you would like. (Pushig buttons to make someone rap). Suprisingly though, the gameplay is very addictive. The only problem with this game, is that it is too short. There are six levels. Sure, you can go back and rap cool, but you can find yourself doing this in a good 5 hours if you are really skilled. If this game was longer, it would definitely gotton a higher score. Hopefully the sequal will recognize this flaw, and make the game longer. However, there are 2 other secret characters that you can rap with! One of which, is a Ninja. This game is worth the buy if you are looking for something like never before, or if you are just looking for fun.

This original rapping game, put simply, is fun to play. Some none gamers ask why the graphics are 2-D cut outs, and the answer is simple; humor. The only bad points about the game, one of which is actually quite major, is the length of the game, and some aspects of the gameplay. The graphics aren't a problem at all. In terms of length, this game only takes about, on average for the beginner, an hour and half. This may not be a problem for some; that's if you like playing the same, easy game game over and over. I just couldn't force myself into playing it that may times. Actually, I only played through the entire game twice, a few of the single levels, and then I had had enough. They tried to increase replay value by adding the ability to rap cool and get to special freestyle areas, but this still wasn't THAT hard. Also, if you rap cool on all of the six stages, then you will get a special dance club thing...strange. These attempts to make the game long just don't cut it though. This game is fun though, but like I said, the fun only lasts a short time. If you want to rap cool in all the stages, your looking at about 4 hours to beat...max. In terms of gameplay, it's the most original game, period. That's not a bad thing at all, escpecially in this case. A rapping game sounds great to me. But, they didn't make it to be the best possible. For starters, I didn't like the fact that how well you did depended on how on beat you were and how many times you press the buttons. I wish they had incorporated HOW you rap as part of your success. Instead, if the phrase that you are supposed to say is "Kick, punch, turn, and chop the door...", then you could rack up the points by saying something like: "Kick, kick, punch, punch, punch, turn, turn..." as long as your incompleted sentance was on beat. Also this game wouldve been REALLY great if there was a vs mode. Like if you took turns rapping for points... I don't think I've even mentioned how the game plays yet. Basically, you rap against some kind of opponent. You must repeat there words by pressing certain buttons in a certain amount of given time. Like I said earlier, the words can be in any order and don't have to make sense at all. Thank goodness this game has what it is all about; sound. It has good music and clear lyrics to help you along the way to the end of the game. Oh yeah, the cinematics are kinda cool as well. I would surely recommend this game to any rapper, as it's the closest thing you'll ever get to a rapping game; actually ou can't get much closer. For a person just looking for a cool game, I'd rent it. You'd probably beat it by then and you would have had enough of it...probably. All in all, this is a decent game.

This game is just addictive and fun. PERIOD. You play the role of PaRappa as he tries to win over the heart of his dream date Sunny Funny. When I first saw this game, I thought it looked and sounded childish. But, after I played this game, I saw that a child could not use rythym and get high scores. I also learned that looking or sounding childish does not make the game bad. I loved this game right when I played the first demo of it. The raps that the little puppy puts out stayed in my head like a bad disease for Years. As I walked down the halls of my school, people would give me stange looks as I walked down the hallways singing, "Crack, crack, crack the egg into the bowl!". The only real problem with it is that it is over too quickly. But, just because the game is over doesn't mean that the fun has to stop there. Once you beat a level, you can go back and revisit it. When you do this, if you rap with skill and rythym you can rap "cool" if you do this, you can go into freestyle mode. In this, you can use any word in that level in any sequence you choose to make up your own rap. If you get off beat or just have a lame rap, you will get booted out of freestyle mode and go back into the normal rap sequence. However, if you can stay in freestyle mode for the remainder of the sequence, you will get a crown for that level. If you do this in all five levels, you will get a secret "stage" where you get to controll Sunny Funny and her freind's movements and change their clothes as they dance in a club. It really isn't all that special, but what do you expect, a whole new game? The control in this game is fairly simplistic, proving that fun games can have very simple controlls. For each rap sequence, each button is assigned to a word or part of a phrase. For the phrases, if you push the same button repeatedly, you will follow through with the whole phrase. While you are in a phrase, if you hold the right arrow down and tap the button, he will only repeat that part of the phrase instead of follow through. Ash already really covered the graphics and I totally agree with him. This is a good game if you are looking for pure fun and not willing to sacrifice some challenge for it.
