Opening Statements
Croc is indeed an awesome one. It has a Mario 64 look
to it. 3d enviornments, variety of enemies, and even some
friends to rescue, called Gobbos. This guy can jump, grab
on to ledges and pull himself up, climb, side step, swim,
and all
that stuff. He's like Lara Croft, only he's Croc.
Nightshadow's Comments
Croc has an atmosphere similar to Mario's. Although the
land areas aren't quite as big as Mario's the graphics are
just about there. Before playing this game, many didn't
know that playstation had this kind of graphical potential.
Another thing that will pull you into this game is the
soundtrack. You almost want to play this game more just to
hear more of the awesome songs. The game controls rather
well, but it is hard to judge your jumps at times due to
the bad camera angles when jumping. Another bad point is
the repetativeness of the levels. They lack variety.
There are some levels that have a new feel to them, and
break away from constant repatative levels. Especially the
ones where you can swim. This is a good feature, but you
don't get to see it very often. There is one island that
focuses a lot on swimming, but other than that, you will
find that this feature is lacking thorughout the game, so
don't expect it to be like Tomb Raider. Collecting Gobbos
in the game is pretty fun. Once you have rescued all the
Gobbos in the game, you get another secret island that lets
you fight the final enemy in his true form! The enemies
are rather easy in the game, but they reappear after about
7 seconds when they are killed, adding to the challenge.
The bosses are easy to kill. You just run around in
circles until they try to attack, and when they are
stunned, hit them. There are about 2 bosses, that do
provide a challenge. Overall, this game is pretty smooth,
and if you crave games of this type, then Croc is probably
for you, but the real one to look out for is Croc II. It
will be out this Christmas '98.
