Nightmare Creatures

Opening Statements

Nightmare Creatures is kind of like a cross between Tomb Raider and Resident Evil, for obvious reasons. This game doesn't really focus on making you jump in your seat, but still has that lingering spooky atmosphere. You could almost say there is some Tekken mixed inside the gameplay because of combos.

Nightshadow's Comments

Nightmare Creatures is full of monsters and action. It appeals to gamers visually with the big monsters and erie atmosphere. The gameplay is is a cross between some games. It is spooky like Resident Evil and all the levels are very dark. You can adjust the brightness of the levels if you can't handle it. You take out the mosters with a weapon, but the weapon can upgrade. You can find the upgrades throughout the game. You also use various combos. Some combos take out body parts, while others knock them on the ground. There is no timing involved in doing the combos, which takes away from the challenge. Also, you find yourself relying on the same 2 or 3 combos throughout the game, because the others don't seem to be quite as effective as they used to be. They do a good job with the various items that you can pick up, including a beserker, which causes you to slice monsters to pieces with any regular swing. The control response is really good, but you'll hate it when your in the middle of a combo, and by the time you realize its not going to work, you get smashed by a monster in your back. Also, there is a significant amount of jumping involved. The jumping control isn't that good, so when you are trying to jump accross a bridge, don't be suprised if you fall in the water. You will probably like the music that accompanies the evil mood. It is pretty good. Despite all these good things though, the gameplay is extremely repetative as you use the same 2 or 3 combos during the game. Perhaps more effective combos, or longer combos would have made up for this. The game has a 3D enviornment, but there isn't much exploration to it. Sometimes you have to search for a switch, but if you have any Tomb Raider experience, than these feeble attempts provide no challenge. If what I said seems like your type of game, take a look at it.

Ash's Comments

From the begining they had set an eerie mood. I thought it was going to give me the scariness of Resident Evil, but obviously I was wrong. I only jumped once; and that was slightly. The game had good graphics, cool enemies, and a decent amount of moves. So where's they go wrong? First of all, the enemies were pie, thanks to the ability to chop everythings arms and legs off; although I did have to find out how to do that by myself. Any enemy can have it's limbs sliced off, rendering it attackless. The second bad thing about the game is the length ( as in most games now a days ). It took an average of about 15 minutes to beat each level. With about 15 levels, that makes for a rather short game. And the reason or this shortness, was that they gave you an adrenaline meter that forced you to find enemies and kill them or else your power will drain until your death. And towards the end of the game the meter starts to cook it on down. In other words, all the game is, is hack and slash, hack and slash, with a few bosses that you must kill with strategy here and there. This game had potential, but they just didn't make it to be the best they could. Now I'm not saying this game is THAT bad, I'm just telling you to rent it and beat it then. Trust me, after you beat it, you probably won't want to play it again for a while, although the first time through will offer an immersive and fun time.
