Opening Statements
A lot of hype was involved in this one. And it pretty much lives up to the hype that was placed on it. This is a good game, with lots of action unlike the first one. There are 2 secret characters, and the ability to control other characters in the game, unlike the first one, where it was all about Chris and Jill. (Except the couple of times you get to control Rebecca). The game is smooth. Just read the reviews.
As stated in the intro, the hype on his game was huge.
When I first heard that Resident Evil 2 was coming out, I was excited.
When I played the game, I was pretty impressed. The game takes place
about a month after the first. Instead of taking place in a mansion, it takes place in
a police station. To begin, this game plays almost exactly like the first.
It has a new auto aim feature now though, so that you can shoot at the monsters
when the camera angles are wierd. This feature kinda takes away some skill factor to the
game; but you can always take it off if you want. I found that
RE2 actually focused more on action then suspense. In Resident Evil, you were slowly introduced to
the existence of zombies, building tons of suspense. In this game,
you start off in a street FILLED with zombies. I was startled more times in RE2 then the first,
but the suspense and overall feel of dread was less. I did like the fact that the lickers, the equivalent to hunters, were actually quite agressive though, and would back out of combat and evade your attacks and then jump at you again. Cool! My biggest complaint about this game is it's
shortness.
They tried to correct this by adding second missions, etc, but this doesn't cut it.
Don't be fooled by the 2 CD's. Both Claire and Leon's ( the stars ) missions are very similar.
A welcome feature though, is that every time you beat the game, there is a slightly defferent mission
with the other character. Nothing huge, but a nice feature anyway. This game has improved over the first in terms of graphics an voice acting.
Also, there are 2 secret characters, but each one's mission can be beaten in a half-hour.
My biggest complaint besides the length, is how similar it is to the first RE. There is even a lab, again; and a sewer.
Sound familiar? Still of you liked RE, then you should buy this game. If you are looking for a
game just to buy, you won't regret buying this. Overall this game is a solid title, with
a little suspense, a good amount of action, and a whole bunch of
scenes that'll make you jump.
Cloud's Comments
What can I say, the game is about as close to 3-D action adventure perfection
as it comes. I really, really,REALLY tried to come up with some negative aspects
to this game, but all I could come up with was a lousy little problem with the
length of the game. It took the same amount for me to beat this one as it took for
the first one. But, beggars can't be choosers! The story is far more developed
in part two. Ash already gave you the time and place. The controls are the same
as the first one, but there is a new auto-aim feature integrated into the controlls.
This doesn't really make much of a difference, but die-hard survivors might want
to deactivate this feature for more of a challenge. This was the one thing that
kept me from giving this game a perfect 10.
It just wasn't challenging. I only really
died once or twice in the whole game. This may sound kind of stupid, but I didn't really
but the game hoping for a challenge, I bought it in the hopes that it would terrify
me just as much as the first one did. The sequel in my opinion, was just as scary, if not
scarier than the first one. Of course, you don't get gradually introduced to the
zombies like the first one, but who wants to waste time doddling on old news?
I sure don't. The horror and suspense is where this game excells. I think that
the amount of suspense and terror in the RE series will go unparallelled for quite
some time. There were many scenes in the game that just about made me piss in my pants.
Some of them only involve inatimate objects, but it is the suspense that gets you.
Well, back to the main things of the game. A new feature is the zapping system.
Ash already explained this in his reveiw. The secret characters' games are not very
long, but they are fun and not really supposed to be long at all. That is why they
are called MINI games! I did like how each character had their own exclusive areas
to explore. It really isn't that big, but it adds to the gameplay. When taking all
that horror, suspense, gameplay, smoothly integrating storylines between the two characters,
secret characters, three secret weapons, and a truck load of gore for effect, it
can all be summed up in one word....BEAUTIFUL!!!
