Opening Statements
This Action/Adventure/Shooter hybrid was made by the
same developers as Earthworm Jim, giving some of the levels
a wacky design. The biggest innovation of this game is the
sniper mode. Because of the exploration involved in MDK,
we decided to classify it with the Action/Adventure genre
rather than just plain old shooter.
Ash's Comments
This game is a unique game in terms of action/adventure.
Some of the strange level designs were courtesy of the
developers of Earthworm Jim, Shiny entertainment. This game
was a pretty long game, taking an average of about 5-6
hours to beat. By far the best feature of this game is the
sniper mode. 80% of the levels give you a chance to stealth
unseen into the level and take advantage of this by using
the sniper mode to silently pick off the enemies around the
levels. Minor strategy elements were added as well, with
the sniper mode ( shoot at certain things to do something
else, etc. ). The level structures changed every new stage,
which kept the gameplay fresh, and made me want to play
just to see the next level. In terms of graphics, they were
nothing special. At some times they were a bit gritty. With
the almost comical attitude of this game as you hear the
enemies cower in fear, or yelp in pain, I enjoy this game
very much.

MDK is a game that should've taken off to be a
best-seller, but instead ended up not reaching its full
potential. I found myself asking the question, "where
would the game be without sniper mode?". The answer, I
don't know. It takes skill to be able to use the sniper
mode consistantly, like Ash does. It is pretty easy to
stay alive, as long as you keep aware of your surroundings
and keep moving. The game is creative, like the
conversations that take place between the Aliens when they
are suddenly sniped out, and their head falls off. One of
my favorite things to do is lob a gernade in a trench and
watch everything blow up. Some of the levels are wierd,
and I guessed that's just an opinion based thing. I can't
say that the graphics and the movement were all that great,
but they weren't too shab. Like I said, sniper mode is
cool, but it is not easy to always use, forcing you to just
pump them out with your regular chain gun. If you liked
the PC version though, this one is a little bit better, so
you might want to give it a try.

I have to admit, I was deeply entertained with MDK......... for about the
first fifteen minutes. The game's sniper mode was revolutionary, but the rest
of the game just could not follow through. There are pretty much predetermined
points in the game where you really get to use your sniper mode. The rest of
the time, there are just too many enemies to constantly use it. This is
because when you are in sniper mode and you take damage, it automatically
boots you out of sniper mode to easily annihalate any enemy in your way. The
basic point of this game is to run and shoot, run and shoot, run and shoot,
do you get my point? The only thing that really makes this game worth
playing is the sniper mode. I think this game is a good weekend rental,
because the game is so short.
