Fighting Force of course, is made by Eidos, and had a lot riding on its shoulders due to the success of the Tomb Raider series. Does it live up to the Eidos name? We'll find out as we review this action game.

Well, this game isn't exactly the best that I've ever
seen. I'm not quite sure if it lives up to the Eidos name.
The control is a little wierd. You will find that your
character moves kind of slow at times, just when you need
him to slaughter people the most. The game wouldn't be
very fun if it weren't for the 2 player mode. I was also
dissapointed with the amount of moves. Any 3D fighter
coming from a "Next-Generation" system should have tons of
moves, especially when all you do is fight. Like most
beat-em'-ups, it can be fun when you and your buddy are
slaughtering everyone, but most of this just seems to be
mindless beating. I beat the game in under 2 hours, but it
does have some replay value by letting you choose which
route you want to take in order to beat the game. Another
good point, the graphics aren't too bad, although the
camera angles can be confusing and stop you from seeing
your character, also, everything is a weapon! You can pick
up what seems to be anything, and beat the mess out of
people with it. This is a good attempt at a great, fun,
game, but instead, winds up falling a little short, or
maybe even more than a little. You should definitely rent
this game before buying it on impulse, unless you just
crave this type of gaming.

Ash's Comments
When I first saw this game, I knew it wasn't going to be good.
I saw a lot of slow ups and little moves. But when I played it, it was worse then I had
expected! It had about 2 moves and major slow-ups. I found it difficult to move
when there was only about 3-5 enemies on the screen. I found it disturbing that a 3-D game
on a system like the playstation only had about 2 combos and about 4 moves per character.
And to further the crappiness, the moves are very similar for each of the 4 characters. Graphic wise,
this one was nothing special. The polygons and animation were average, but like I said, the break-ups
during gameplay were very disturbing. But I did like the big bosses. They weren't huge, but they were big.
The music was also average. I also didn't like the difficulty level. The game was just flat out pie.
Especially on 2 player games. Speaking of 2 player mode... I really didn't like how the camera angles
always got out of whack during the game, and the rooms were so small, I was always beating up my team-mate.
At first, I thought it was going to be cool to choose which way to go, until I played through the game
in about 1 and a half hours and realized that each different path, leads to the same place. I don't know
about you, but I couldn't find the perseverance to continually play the same six or seven lands over
and over, just to see one new area. It just wasn't worth it. In terms of overall fun factor, it was
okay at times, but for the most part, I was too busy criticizing the crappy mechanics of the game, rather
then enjoying it ( which was rather hard to do ). I wouldn't recommend this game, and I must say I am
rather dissapointed, because I like beat-em-ups.

This game kind of got my hopes up. It only led to a HUGE dissapointment.
Whenever I saw this game advertised, I was fooled into beleiving that the lands
were big and diverse. I thought that it would be at least half as free roaming
as the Tomb Raiders. However, the lands were divided into "stages" (actually
little tiny arenas about the size of my pinky finger). This was really a downfall
in two player mode. Whenever I went to fight an enemy, I would always punch my
comrade. Me and Ash fought each other more than any of the enemies in the game!
On the positive side, one the really cool things about this game was the fact
that anything can be a weapon. Some of them are really obvious (like guns, bazookas,
boxes, knives, etc..), but some are hidden. For instance, if you go up a set of
stairs, you could rip the railing right off and proceed to beat the crap out
of an opponent. If you walk up to a wall and hit punch, chances are that you
will have a brand spankin' new implement of destruction to try out. The bad thing
about this is that the weapons are not as diverse. When I say this, I mean this in the
sense that an axe and a pole have the same attack animation and do the same
amount of damage. The games' controls are mediocre at best. You might end up walking
in the wrong direction or attacking the wrong person (Sorry Ash!). The bad thing
about the fighting system is that there are no combos at all. Well actually, you have two.
Punch, punch, punch and kick, kick, kick. Pret-ty tric-ky huh? NO. The graphics were
ok I guess, considering that they were in a 3-D environment. With all of the
ads that were in the magazines making this game look awesome, this is a perfect
example of a game that just can not live up to the hype that it created for
itself. A cardinal sin of the gaming industry.
