Defense

Playname : Defense & Shell drill part 2

1

This is a continuation of the Shell Drill.

The m2m with help side defense is a small part of " team defense".Here, lets look at team defense using the principles we learned from the shell drill.

Lets suppose your opponent comes at you with a 3 out/2[1-2-2] in offensive plan. You start like this.

2

They set up their center and big forward on the low blocks.Have your defense stay inside, against the players, with a arm in front to knock away any attempted pass from the 1.I call this " side front the offense".
Example is:the 4 is against the 4 offense, with his left arm extended out and up in front of the offense 4 player. The 5 does the same, except he has to use his right arm, instead of his left.Use this defensive position when ever the ball is at top of circle area.

3

The one passes to the 2.Here`s what you do,just shift the 1 over to cover him.
Should the 2 drive toward the basket, you have the 3 and 2 to help.

4

When the ball is in the corner, you " dead front the post player".You have your player play in front of the offense post player, and thats the only time you do that, when the ball is in the corners. Also have your 4 come up and sandwich the post player.
The 2 drops down to help cover the lane.

5

If they set up their center at the free throw line, have your center play directly behind him.

6

Here are several rules for this defense so far.

1-play your 3 at the top. That way your 2 and 1 can maybe pick off a pass.

2-have your 4 and 5 play shaded in the lane, forcing the big guys outside the lane.

3-Allways play close in the lane, with a arm stuck up in front of the offense to make them think twice before passing to them.
