TO THINK

I learned about your secrets,
A pill too large to swallow,
My heart now aches inside my breast,
As though suddenly it went hollow.

All your words came too cheap,
All you said, you lied.
I can no longer feel a pulse,
As though with my heart, my body died.

To think you were my lover’s dream,
To think I thought I meant the same,
To think of all my foolish vows,
To think of all my shame.

To think of all my happy wishes,
To think of all my purest desires,
To think of all my pleasant plans,
To think you set my heart afire.

To think of all your apologies,
To think they were still but lies,
To think of all the pain I have,
To think of all I’ve cried.

To think of all the tears I shed,
To hear my broken hearts song,
To think I blamed myself for this,
“What had I done wrong”?

To think I meant not one thing to you,
Although you were my everything,
To think Cupid’s accursed arrow
Left with too much sting.

I know now, you loved me not,
Although I would have loved you ever,
But with all this pain stirred inside me,
I know we can never be together.
