K.T. Oslin's First Two Singles
K.T. Oslin's first single "Clean Your
Own Tables" was in
1981. (Kay T. Oslin back then).
Electra Records released this to radio
but it wasn't played because DJs thought
it was "too feminist." That was in
1981. If it was released today it
probably would be a hit cause many
females release feminist type songs,
Shania Twain is the perfect example of
that! It is very rare to find a copy of
this and after over 2 years of searching
I finally located it at a online record
store, www.gemm.com. They don't have
anymore at this time, but they do have
K.T.'s 2nd single in 1982, an earlier
version of "Younger Men". I also got
that and they have more copies. It
was considered too feminist for radio
too.
K.T.'s first 2 singles (Released on
vinyl 45's):
-Clean Your Own Tables b/w How Many
Loves Have I Got Left (early version of
"Doctor Doctor")-1981 Electra Records
-Younger Men (early version)/Nelda Jean
Prudy (early version of "Mama Was A
Dancer")-1982 Electra Records
You can find the lyrics to "Younger
Men," "Mama Was A Dancer," and "Doctor
Doctor" on the album page from which
their later versions came. Here is the
lyrics to the rarest K.T. Oslin
recording:
"Clean Your Own Tables" written by Chip
Tylor
Well I ain't exactly been what you call
your all American girl,
Some too many truckers took me home.
I'll admit my life reads just like a
paperback,
Some of what I've done I say is wrong.
(Chorus:)
But I say clean your own tables boys and
bring out the beer
Cause I ain't gonna do it this time
And drink to a used to be bar maid
And be the man that I choose to be mine.
Well he ain't exactly been what you call
your all American boy,
Done time in Frisco and LA.
Some of you have taken pride in what I
am,
Heard you cussin' each decision that I
made.
(Chorus:)
I say clean your own tables boys and
bring out the beer
Cause I ain't gonna do it this time
And drink to a used to be bar maid
And be the man that I choose to be mine.
I say clean your own tables boys and
bring out the beer
Cause I ain't gonna do it this time
And drink to a used to be bar maid
And be the man that I choose to be mine.
Boys if you're able clean your own
tables
And let me take care of mine.
