Back in Feb. 1999, I decided to go ahead and get the tattoo that I had been wanting for about 6 months. So, one day, my best friend, MicheLe, and I went to Gary's Skin Graphics in Greenville, NC, and underwent "alterations." MicheLe got her tongue pierced, something I now know I could NEVER do, and I got my little, itty-bitty tattoo...
Fifteen minutes and $50.00 later, I had a permanent butterfly on my lower back. I have no idea what my artist's name was.. all I know is that I don't think he had one square inch of his body unpierced. Lesson #1: Don't ever ask a man who has that many piercings which one his favorite is. Cause he's GUARANTEED to have some you don't know about and can't see!! Nuff said!
Why a butterfly? Well.... I thought about it for a while, and NO I wasn't trying to be trendy or anything. If you've ever seen Patch Adams then you'll know what I'm talking about when I say this: to me, butterflies represent everyone's ability to become something beautiful. Butterflies come from these ugly little caterpillars, then make even uglier cacoons, but blossom eventually into beautiful butterflies. No matter what you come from, or what things happen to you along life's path... there is always hope and always a light at the end of the tunnel. I think the idea of butterflies really fits my personality... I'm hopelessly optimistic.
