"Never"
By: PrnSerena6@aol.comShe could smell the perfume scented air from the gardenias growing nearby. The sky was brightly painted
Annalyn walked in the park looking around. with clouds, and was a clear summer day. She smiled as she saw a duck flying into the lake, and decided to sit down on the bench in front of the lake.
She looked out into the lake and began to think about her recent breakup with her long-time boyfriend, Austin. How could he do this to me?! How can he just cheat on me, thinking that's it's alright to do that! she thought. Tears began to form in her hazel eyes, yet she refused to let them fall.
Why did I have feelings for him in the first place? I mean….he did seem like a jerk…but than there was so much more to him then what meets the eye she thought, knowing that her mind was battling with her heart.
While Annalyn was lost in her thoughts she didn't realize where she was until she heard two people giggling behind her. Turning around, she saw a young couple walking hand in hand. She smiled sadly as she remembered her first date with him…
**********
"Oh Austin! I can't believe I'm finally here with you. You have no clue on how long I've been waiting to be with you," Annalyn said. They were both sitting on the grass in front of the lake. It was at night, and the stars shined brightly above them. The cold, crisp air made Annalyn shiver, but she didn't care how cold it was. Just as long as she's with Austin, she was fine.
"Oh, but I do know, Anna. I too have been waiting for this moment in years. And now that it's finally coming true…I don't ever want to leave your side, ever again." Austin said softly, taking her hands into his. There was a comfortable silence between them, until Austin spoke up.
"Annalyn?" he asked.
"Yes?" she replied, looking into his eyes.
"I know it hasn't been that long since we knew each other but….I love you," he said passionately.
**********
Annalyn felt the hot tears falling from her eyes, and rolling down her cheek as the memory faded from her mind. But just as soon as the first memory left, another one came into her mind…
**********
Annalyn was sitting on the living room couch, watching everyone around her having a good time dancing. Her best friend, Howie, was throwing a party for his eighteenth birthday. At first, she didn't want to go because Austin wasn't there. But after hours of hearing Howie begging her to go, she reluctantly gave in.
After what seemed like hours to her, she decided to leave. Taking her purse, she walked to the door, until she heard a familiar voice call out her name.
"Wassup Annalyn!" the voice cried out.
Annalyn turned around and found Austin with another girl, his arms were around the girl's waist. At first, she thought that he wasn't going to be here, so she opened her mouth to speak. Yet Austin spoke before she had the chance.
"Did I ever tell you that I was sleeping behind your back?!" he asked. His voice was disoriented, and he was swaying from side to side. His breath had an alcohal smell, and had the goofiest grin on his face.
At first, she was shocked. Not only the fact that he was cheating on her, but also the fact that he was drinking. She began questioning if this was really Austin. She knew it was him physically, but she also knew that this was not the same guy that she had known for two years. "B…but why? I thought you said you loved me?" she asked, feeling hurt and pain in her heart.
"Why? WHY?!" he screamed. "It was because you wouldn't sleep with me! And also because you were always flirting with your so called 'best friend' there," he said, pointing at Howie.
"We NEVER flirted with each other Austin and you knew that! We were only friends. And anyways, the only person that I love is you, and only you!" she protested.
"Yeah, whatever you stupid b*tch. You know that you wanted to f*ck him whenever you had the chance!" he paused slightly, and continued. "Well you know what? I think you WILL be getting that chance right now, and be Howie's little wh*r*. We're through you sl*t." he said coldly. He turned around and walked away with the girl by his side.
Annalyn stood there dumbfounded. Every single word that he had spoken felt like a dagger driving deeply in her heart. Unable to take any more pain and shock, Annalyn ran out the door.
**********
By this time, Annalyn was crying even harder. I can't stand this pain anymore! I…I can't live this life knowing that he doesn't care about me This is too much for me… she thought. She then stood up and began walking towards the direction of the bridge.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Standing from a distance from where Annalyn was sitting, Howie stood there watching her the whole time. His dark brown eyes had a glint of sadness as he was watching her. He hated how Austin had broken up with her like that just a few days ago. Howie loved her a lot, yet he was afraid to admit his feeling for her, in fear of rejection.
"I should tell her how I feel," he said quietly to himself, raking his hands through his long brown hair. "Because if I don't….it'll be too late."
He began thinking about ways to tell her how he feels, yet all of his plans seemed like it wouldn't work. As he continued to think, he noticed that she stood up and started walking off to somewhere else.
"Where's she going?" he asked out loud to himself. After minutes of contemplating whether or not to follow her, he finally decided to go.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The sun began to set as Annalyn walked to the bridge. Her eyes, once hazel, was now red and puffy, and her neatly combed chestnut hair was now tattered and messy. As soon as she reached the bridge, climbed up the railing and stood straight. So this is it she thought, looking down at the speeding cars , and began taking a step forward.
"ANNALYN!" Howie screamed at the top of his lungs, hoping that she would stop.
Annalyn turned around and found Howie running towards her direction. "Go away Howie! I don't need to live anymore! I have no reason to live…and no one cares about me!" she said, wiping the tears from her eyes.
Now is the time for me to tell her how I feel…case it's now…or never he thought. "Someone does love you Annie! And that person is me!" he cried out.
Her eyes widened after she heard him. Suddenly, another flashback came into her mind.
**********
Annalyn stopped running and sat down on a tree stump near Howie's house. She hugged her knees and began to cry. All of a sudden, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Surprised, she turned around to see Howie kneeling beside her.
"Annalyn…." He said, before pulling her into an embrace. Howie hugged her gently, but firmly, as she cried on his shoulder.
"Don't forget that I'm always here for you whenever you need help. And I promise that no one will ever hurt you again….never." he whispered into her ears, as she continued to cry.
**********
As soon as the flashback was over, she climbed down from the railing and ran into his arms, hugging him tightly. She then started sobbing and crying on his shoulder uncontrollably. She didn't notice until now how he had felt about her….and how she truly felt about him. Being in his arms felt so right, and all she wanted to do was stay in his arms forever.
Both of them sat there, still holding onto each other. Thousands of ideas raced through their minds as they were wondering if this was just a dream. She was still crying, but not as much as before.
When Howie noticed that she had calmed down a bit, he pulled away and wiped her tears gently with his thumbs. While looking deeply into her eyes he said, "Never forget how much I love you, Annalyn." Then, he kissed her softly on the lips.
Then he whispered into her ear, "Never."
