Chapter 28

As Nick started to nudge at me, I slowly opened my eyes. I looked at the door, and there standing there was my mother. She hadn’t talked to me since the wedding, and I haven’t even seen her since then. “Momma?” I said looking at her. Then I took Lexi into my arms. Nick sensed that I didn’t want her to touch them unless I had some explanation of why she hadn’t talked to me in months.

“Hi Sweetheart.” She said standing at the foot of the bed. “What are you doing here?” I asked coldly. “I guess I deserve all of this, umm.. Alright Natalie, Nick. I owe both of you an apology especially you Nat. I haven’t talked to you in maybe over a year, and I took this the birth of your children to come back. I have to tell you why I haven’t talked to you in a year, your father and his girlfriend came to live with me during the divorce hearings, I tried to contact you in every way, but I couldn’t, I wrote you a letter once and was going to mail it to you, but then your father took it away from me tore it up. I tried to call but he blocked the number from calling you. Anytime I would plan to go over to your house I would have to take his girlfriend. They got married, did you know that? Well, now they’ve decided to move out, and they did. This week, I went to your house, but you weren’t there. So I called Jane, and she told me that you were having twins. I was so happy. So that’s why I’m here. I’ve been outside the room for about two hours thinking of what to say to you, because you are my baby girl. My only Child and I can’t disown you for something that I never wanted. Can you please forgive me?” She asked ready to start to cry. I had tears just going down my face.

“I will always forgive you momma.” I said putting Lexi in her crib, I ran to her and gave her a hug. We held each other in our arms for the longest time. Then my mom said, “Sweetheart, you shouldn’t be out of that bed, you just had three babies. I should be going towards you.” I looked up at her and rubbed my eyes with the tears. “I don’t care. I missed you mommy.” I said she smiled.

“Well, now you’re the mommy, I’m just the grandma, could I hold them and meet them?”

I turned towards Nick, who was all smiles. “You okay if she holds them?” I asked him.

“More than okay, I’d be happy to let her.” he said and got up. “I’d give you a hug, but I got two babies, take one.” he said handing her Michael. “Who is this beautiful baby?” she asked.

“That’s Michael Scott, and then this little one is Lexi Ann.” I said holding Lexi, “And Nick had Andrew James.”

“Hello beautiful.” she said to him, and started to coo at each of them.

A little while later, after she talked to us about everything and how now she was going to help out. She started to get her things to leave. “Well, Nat, Nick I’ll see you tomorrow. When are you getting out?” she asked. “Soon, I think.” I said. She smiled. “Alright, I’ll see all five of you later.” she said and went away.

We had been in the hospital for about a week, Nick stayed with me everyday and just left me to go get something to eat. They tried to have me feed the babies, but I couldn’t do it. So now we have them all on a special formula that we have to warm and feed them.

As we walked down the hall, I had Lexi in my arms and Michael in the carrier, while Nick had Andrew in his arms. We walked to the end, signing me and the babies out. When al of Nick’s family, plus my mom cam out of the waiting room. “Now it’s a party.” I said to Nick who was signing the papers. He nodded and put Andrew back on his hip. These babies are getting so big. I swear they were so tiny and now they are getting a little bit bigger.

As we went to the car, Jane took Michael and held him as we started to put their car seats in. After we place each kind in their seats, Nick and I looked at everyone.

“Well, we better go get these babies to bed.” Nick said walking up to his mom and giving her a hug. After we all hugged, Nick grabbed me and pulled me into a kiss. “I love you, you know that?” he said after we pulled apart. I smiled.

We heard all the car doors close, and Aaron ran up to us. “Nick, can I go home with you guys? Mom said it was fine with you as long as it was with you.” he asked.

Nick looked at me, his arms around me. “Nat is it okay with you?” “Yeah, we need all the help we can get.” Nick smiled and kissed my head. “Alright Aaron we’ll go home, get the babies settled and I’ll go drive you home to get you some things alright?”

“Works for me.” he said. We all finally got in the car. Aaron sat in the back with all the babies, while I sat in front along with Nick who was driving. After awhile of traffic Nick looked over at me. “Nat, you need to go get some sleep. Go on ahead, I’ll wake you up later.” I smiled and went to sleep.

I looked over at my brother who was playing with Michael. “Hey Bro.” I said. He looked up at me.

“What?”he asked. “You want to do a favor for me?” I asked him.

“Sure, depends on what it is, I’m not changing diapers, as much as I love you, and your kids no. Anything but that.”

“I know, not that, it’s about the wedding, your going to be in the party right?”

“Yeah, you asked me that a long time ago. So?”

“Well, I didn’t ask Nat yet, but do you want to be one of their god fathers? You can choose.”

“Yeah, but what do I do?”

“Hold them, when we have the baptism.” he smiled. “Yeah. I can do that.”

“Good.” I said as we kept quite the rest of the way home.

As we got home, I nudge Nat up. She started to moan “come on five more minutes.” she said. “Nat we’z be home and the babies wanna go to bed.”

“Oh.. Yeah.” she said and started to get up.

We all picked up a kid, and walked into the house. Aaron started to run towards the door with Lexi in his arms. “Aaron don’t you dare run with her in your arms!” Nat yelled. Wow.. Overprotective.. That can be a good thing... I think.

Once we reached the door, I opened the door, and noticed how dark it was. “Damn, it’s dark in here.” I said while Nat hit me. I started to search for the light switch, when the lights came on and we heard “surprise!”

I looked around and saw all of my family, my friends, some of Nat’s family, and her friends. “Guess we should of kept this quite.” I laughed. “Maybe.” she said kissing my cheek.

“What’s all this for?” Nat asked to everyone. AJ stepped out of the crowd, “It’s a baby shower, just not with them games, those scare me and some other people around here. Now let me grab a baby from you and guess his name.” AJ said taking Andrew out of my arms. “Is this the one that Nicky named after me?” he said to him. “Yeah your right bone.” I laughed.

After the shower ended everyone left. The babies were sleeping in their bassinets that Nat’s mom gave us, and our house was filled with boxes and well, everything. Aaron got a ride from my mom to go get his stuff, while we cleaned up the house a little bit more.

I walked up to Nat, and Sat down next to her. “Hey beautiful.” I said. “Hey you.” She said smiling at me.

“Damn, they got us a lot of stuff don’t you think?” I said picking up the doll that on of her friends got us. “Yeah, but it might save us some money.” she said. I looked at her confused. “Nick, don’t think I didn’t see you signing that check for the hospital bill. Please don’t.” She said. “I thought you were talking to my mom or one of my sisters. I don’t know. I just didn’t want to see you know that I had to pay a lot more because we didn’t have insurance.”

“Nick, I do have insurance, you paid for no reason at all. I could of given them the card and it would of been taken care of. Now I’m going to go back there and fix everything so that you can have your money back and we can work on more important things.” she smirked.

“What would that be baby?” I asked. “Nick, look around here, you see that there is no room for people. I mean we need a house not an apartment, a house. Maybe four or five rooms.” she said.

“Nat, I would love that, but I mean, we only need like, three?” I asked.

“Nick, maybe, but my mom said she can help us.”I sighed. “Nat, I don’t want to always live off our families, I think we can handle this for now. I think.” I said.

“Nick, my mom feels bad that she hasn’t talked to me since I got married, so she said she would buy us one, cuz of the money they got from selling me to the faggot, I can get any money I want.”

“You sure we should be doing this? I mean the money can be taken in any other way, I mean we are going to have a proper wedding right? And then the babies will be baptized then too right?”

“Yeah, but mom said she would help on all that. So later on this week I was going to go look for a house. And then after the holidays I’ll go look for a dress and all that other stuff.” She said.

“Something wrong baby?” she asked. “No, I just can’t believe that you have all this worked out.”

“Most of it. We just need to get to the babies future.” she said. “Yeah, then it would be all good.”

She smiled at me. “Nick.” she said. “Yo.” She sat on my lap, “what are we going to do for Thanksgiving, it’s in two weeks, and I need to tell my mommy where she is invited to.”

“I thought we would have just us and the kids, then no one would come and bother us.”

“But Nick, your mom and mine are both grandmothers, their not going to stop at anything so that they can see their new grand kids.”

“Damn, then when are we going to either have them here or go somewhere.” she smiled at me. “You got it. Your not that dumb.” “And I thought you loved me.” I said as we went into a well deserved kiss.
