~*~*Chapter 49*~*~
Heather and Monica arrived at Brian's house at around 8:45. The party had a major turnout, like they had planned. As soon as they walked inside, Monica found Nick and they danced to the song that the DJ was playing. Heather and Brian got to mingle with a lot of new people. Heather met a lot of new faces, which she didn't mind. She was having a good time and she knew Brian was, too. She knew he was enjoying himself because he had that twinkle in his blue eyes that Heather loved from the moment he knocked her over in May. She had enjoyed those eyes for the past 5 months.
"C'mon, let's go," Brian said and pulled her on the dance floor.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Phew! That dancing took me out!" Monica exclaimed as Nick and her stood in the kitchen, drinking some soda. Today was one of the best days of Nick's life.
' Let's see.......I woke up and had my favorite cereal, played AWESOME at video games, got the best new girlfriend, my best friend came back, and is having a blast at a party. To top it all off, Monica is going to be by my side for the next six months! ' Nick thought to himself. They walked back onto the dance floor and put their arms around each other for Celine Dion and R. Kelly's "I'm Your Angel." Nick sighed when Monica laid her head on his chest.
"Nick?"
"Yea?"
"Thank you." Monica said.
"Your welcome." He said. There was a pause. "Wait, for what?" Nick asked with a confused expression on his face. Monica laughed.
"For opening my eyes," Monica said just as Nick's lips were touching her own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"That's all of them!" Kevin said as the last guest left. They were all extremely exhausted.
"I can't move my legs," Nick whined. Heather struggled to stay awake, but looked at Brian who was sound asleep with his head on her lap. She ran her hand across his face before, herself, falling asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A few months later.....~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Run! Let's go!" Nick shouted as they ran onto the bus after a show in late December. The girls, Monica and Heather, waited in the back of the bus and watched them run. This was getting to be their nightly ritual. Every night, the boys would do a show, come running out like lightning speed, and zoom off into the next city. The girls had somewhat managed to stay low-key, but after Heather and Brian's relationship had gone public, her privacy seemed to be slipping away. When Monica was asked if she had a relationship with any one of the boys, she would tell them no or she was a friend of Heather's.
They had gone to Heather's family for Thanksgiving, and would be going to Brian's for Christmas. She couldn't wait. Her parents loved Brian, so they didn't object when she told them she was going on tour with him. It seemed to bother some fans, but she just learned to ignore it.
"Off to Lexington!" Kevin yelled as the bus pulled away from the venue. They all laughed.
"Hey, you!" Heather said and gave Brian a kiss.
"Hey." He smiled. Heather could tell by that twinkle in his eye that he was happy to go home.
~*~*Chapter 50*~*~
"Good-bye, Mrs. Littrell," Heather said and gave her a hug. They stood outside the house on January 5. Christmas was going to be a memorable one. Heather had gotten Brian a gold chain and Brian had gotten her a locket with a picture of them at Hawaii inside. He knew that was her favorite picture. Heather was lucky to have such a wonderful boyfriend and his loving parents that welcomed her into their home. This Christmas was bound by love.
Heather left Brian alone for a few hours after they left. She knew he missed his family already.
"Heather?"
"Yea, Bri?" she answered.
"Can you hand me my wallet?" Brian asked.
"Yup." She threw the wallet and sat down next to him on the bus.
"Here you go," Brian said and handed her a folded envelope. Inside laid four tickets to an Orlando Magic Basketball game on May 8, their one year anniversary. They were her favorite team, and knowing she had floor seats made her even more happy. Brian said it was an early anniversary present.
~~~~~
After a few more weeks of touring, the Backstreet Boys would have time to record their next album in the studio. The game was getting closer and closer, and pretty soon the day had come. Heather's mom was taping the game, just in case she caught a glimpse of Heather, Brian, Nick or Monica. Brian figured she would, considering that they had floor seats and Nick and him were celebrities.
"Look at these seats!" Monica exclaimed once the game started.
"I know! They're great!" Heather said before Orlando made a shot.
"Hey, Nick. Come with me to get some soda?" Brian asked. Nick nodded.
"Want something?" Brian asked to Heather.
"Nah, I'll have some of yours," she said before they left.
~~~~~~~
"You guys took long enough!" Monica said when Nick and Brian returned.
"Well, the line was like, 3 miles long and once we FINALLY got the soda, Nick dropped it and we had to wait in the line again!" Brian said with frustration. Everyone looked at Nick.
"What? I didn't mean it!" Nick confessed. They watched the first and 2nd quarter of the game in amazement, but Heather noticed Brian was somewhat quiet. She was about to say something when the team walked past them to the locker room.
"What's the score at the half?" Nick asked and looked up at the scoreboard.
"OMIGOD! HEATHER - LOOK!" Monica exclaimed and pointed to the scoreboard. Heather looked up and gasped at what she saw:
"Heather - Happy Anniversary! Will you marry me? Love, Bri"
"Brian...." she whispered out loud to herself. She went to look at Brian in the eye, but was surprised to see him not there, but kneeling on one knee in front of her.
"Heather Mason, I love you with all of my heart. I am so happy that one year ago today I bumped into you. I bumped into love that day. I am, right now, looking into the eyes of the person that I want to grow old with. Will you marry me?" Brian asked and slipped out a huge engagement ring from his pocket. Tears threatened to pour down Heather's cheeks as the cameraman zoomed up next to them on national television.
"Brian, I don't know what to say...." Heather managed to choke out.
"Say yes!" Brian said with a laugh and slipped the ring onto her finger.
"Yes! Yes, I will marry you!" Heather cried and threw her arms around Brian's neck. Tears of joy sprang onto her cheeks, but she didn't care. She just hugged her fiance as tight as she could.
The rest of the game passed by in a blur.
"Let's go!" Nick called. Heather didn't even realize that the game was over. Phew. Time flies when your in love. About an hour later, they were at Heather's house.
"Can I use your bathroom real fast, Heather?" Nick asked. Nick and Brian were driving back to Brian's apartment.
"Yea, sure. We can all come in," she offered. Nick jogged into the bathroom while Brian went to the kitchen to get something to drink. Monica relaxed on the couch and Heather checked her messages.
"HEATHER!" her mother screamed from the answering machine. "YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED! AAHH! YOU'RE FATHER AND I ARE TAKING THE NEXT PLANE TO ORLANDO." Her mother was obviously overcome with joy. The next message was from Brian's mom, basically saying the same thing. By now, Brian and Monica had joined Heather. She leaned back into Brian's muscular arms.
"Everyone is so happy for us!" Brian exclaimed.
"Good thing I changed my number! Otherwise my phone would be ringing off the hook by your crazy fans!" Heather joked. She picked her head up so Brian could give her a kiss.
"Ok, let's go" Nick said when he returned. He draped an arm over Monica's shoulder.
"Oh, you're not going anywhere," Heather said, grabbing Brian by his shirt and yanking him into her bedroom, slamming the door shut.
