~*~*Chapter 21*~*~
Brian watched Heather's car speed away down the street. What happened? All he did was say hello and she flipped out. He made his way back to his room and plopped down on the bed. A tear splatted onto his pillow. He didn't know what he would do without her. He closed his eyes......
When Brian woke up, it was 6:30. All the crying had made him tired. He walked out of the room and went upstairs to find Heather. He found her laying on her bed.
"Heather, we need to talk," Brian said, sitting down next to her.
"There's nothing to talk about," Heather said horsely, storming out of the room. He followed her to the kitchen.
"What do you mean 'there's nothing to talk about'?" he asked, his voice raising. "What's going on?" he asked her. He watched Heather pour herself a drink with tears washing over her face. He wanted to reach out to her. To hold her.
"Brian, why are you doing this to me?" Heather said through her tears, throwing her glass onto the floor with glass splattering everywhere. Heather sobbed. "Brian, I-"
"I love you!" Brian said, interrupting her. Heather stopped and looked up at him.
"What did you just say?" Heather asked.
"Heather, listen to me. When you were mad at me today, I was going crazy. Heather, we need each other. We belong together." Brian said with tears pooling in his eyes. "But most important, I need you more than anything else in the world. I would be lost without you." He said, with a single tear cascading onto his cheek.
"Oh, Brian." She walked over to him and threw her arms around him. They stood there, in the kitchen, just holding each other. Finally, Heather spoke.
"Brian?"
"Yea?"
"I love you, too." She looked deep into his eyes.
They kissed each other, all of their problems forgotten.
~*~*Chapter 22*~*~
"I'm home!" Heather's mom said when Brian and Heather had cleaned up the broken glass and ate a snack. They sat and talked with her mom for about an hour until her beeper went off.
"Well, gotta go, guys. Tell your father the committee called and needs to proof the gym, ok?" She kissed Heather on the forehead, grabbed her purse and left.
"You wanna go for a walk?" Heather asked Brian.
"Sure," Brian replied. They set foot into Heather's homeland.
"I remember my old neighborhood," Heather said as they strolled down the street. They held hands as Heather recapped her childhood. He was so close to losing her today. She was the light of his day.
They walked her whole town, stopped by the Ice Cream House and pushed each other on the swings at the park. They were closer than they ever were before. When they returned home at 9:30, they found a note on the door.
Heather and Brian,
We have a big day tomorrow, so get some sleep.
PS DONT WAKE US UP!
Love,
The family
"SHH!! Heather said to Brian as they quietly walked up the stairs to her room. Brian was in back of her with his arms around her waist.
"Don't worry, we wont," he mumbled into her hair.
They slipped into her room quietly, for Danny was sleeping in the adjacent room. They talked for a little while. Her body ached, she was so tired from lack of sleep the night before. She snuggled deep into his embrace, breathing in his cologne. Her breathing became more and more heavy as the minutes flew by, her eyelids drooping. Brian gently let her go and started to tiptoe out of the room when she sat up in bed.
"Where are you going?" asked a sleepy Heather.
"I'm going to bed. Now lay down and I'll see you in the morning," Brian said.
"No, Brian. Stay here tonight, please? With me?" Heather pleaded.
"Your mom and dad would kill me if they found out, Heather." He walked back over to her and gave her a quick kiss on her forehead. He pulled the covers back and allowed her to crawl into them. Once she was settled, he kissed her lips one last time.
"Now go to bed." Brian turned on his heel and walked out of the room. Before leaving, he took one long look at her. She was sleeping once again.
