Chapter 2
"Here are your prenatal vitamins, and call anytime you feel the need," the nurse said with a friendly gesture.
"Thanks," Heather said and took the vitamins. They walked hand in hand to the elevator. They were just about to leave the maternity floor of the hospital when Heather felt Brian suddenly stop.
"Come here," Brian said and led her over to a room full of crying new-born babies.
"Look at them! They're so cute!" Heather gushed.
"Pretty soon ours will be in there," Brian said and kissed her forehead. Heather smiled for she was glad that Brian was as happy as she was about the pregnancy.

"Well? What did the doctor say?" Mrs. Mason asked as soon as Heather and Brian stepped foot into the house.
"Yea, what did he say?" Mrs. Littrell asked.
"Hello to you too, Mom!" Brian said sarcastically and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"Well..the tests came out positive, so it's definite. We're going to have a baby." Heather said. Saying those words sent shivers up and down her spine.
"So now we have a wedding and a baby to prepare for!" Mrs. Littrell exclaimed.
"Heather, want a drink?" Brian asked as he retrieved a Pepsi from the refrigerator.
"Nah, no thanks. I'm pretty tired. I'm going to go take a nap," she said and went upstairs.

"Nick, come on. We have to go now," Monica said again. They had spent all day at the beach, and Nick didn't plan on leaving any time soon.
"Why? It's only 10:30. We don't have to be there until 12:00 tomorrow," Nick murmured and kissed her neck. Monica sighed. Nick was right. Nick still had to get his suit for the wedding fixed for some minor adjustments.
"Yea, but Heather's appointment was today," Monica remembered.
"Oh, yea. That's right!" Nick replied. He was completely happy for his best friend, but was worried about what would happen to the Backstreet Boys. Some fans were upset about Brian being engaged. How would they react to the baby? But on the other hand, many people loved Heather. Nick thought about this as he and Monica packed up the remainder of their romantic dinner on the beach.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked him on the ride home. Nick jumped out of his reverie.
"The fans."
"No. You're thinking about the fans reaction to the baby," Monica said, reading his mind.
"OK, OK. You got me," Nick confessed. Monica knew her boyfriend too well. After all, they had been dating for 10 months now.
About a half hour later, Nick and Monica quietly opened the door to Brian's apartment, expecting Brian to be there.
"Hello? Anybody home?" Nick called into an empty house.
"Where is he?" Monica asked as Nick pulled her into his arms.
"I don't know, but I do know one thing..." Nick said with an evil grin forming on his face. Monica knew what the look meant.
"And what's that, Nick?" she acted.
"We're all alone...." he trailed off and blew softly into her ear. Her heart skipped a beat as Nick continued. They had never had sex before, not once in their 10 month relationship. Monica had rushed into sex before in the past, but this time she put her foot down to stop the temptations. She wanted it to be special, something that she would remember for the rest of her life.
"Come here. I have a surprise for you," he whispered into her ear and led her into the guestroom, which Nick called his own.
"Not another one of your surprises.." Monica said.
"No, you'll like this. Now close your eyes," he instructed. Monica did as she was told. A few steps later and Nick stopped her.
"Ok. Open them," he whispered. He watched her reaction. The whole room was covered with sweet, burning candles with a single red rose on the dresser.
"This is for you." He said and handed her the rose. He gestured toward the lit room.
"Nick, it's beautiful!" she remarked.
"I did it before we left for the beach," he said.
"You left burning candles without supervision?" Monica asked with a laugh. Nick shrugged.
"Why did you do it?" she asked him.
"Well, you know I love you very much. I will always respect your feelings, but I was hoping that tonight would be our night," he whispered. Monica watched Nick's sincere face.
"Nick, you know how I feel--" she began.
"I know," Nick interrupted.
"But," she continued, "I've realized that my love grows stronger for you everyday. Nick, I love you so much," she said and ran over and hugged him.
"I love you too!" he stated.
"That's why I've changed my mind," she whispered.
"About what?" he asked, holding her tight.
"About tonight. Our night. I'm ready." she said into his hair.
"What did you say?" Nick asked.
"You heard me." she said. Nick lifted her so they were seeing eye to eye.
"Are you sure?" Nick asked. Monica nodded and kissed him with a burning passion.

Heather sat upright in bed in the middle of the night. A cold sweat was appearing on her cheeks. "Heather? Go back to bed," Brian mumbled and pulled her closer.
"Brian, I had a dream!" Heather said in a panic.
"Really? Tell me about it, sweetie." He said.
"It was so scary! I dreamt that I was delivering the baby and everyone was there but you! I couldn't find you, Brian! I could hear your voice, but I didn't know where you were!" Heather cried, tears sliding down her cheeks.
"Honey, what's the matter? Why are you crying!" he asked and sat up. He was confused. Why was she crying? He patted her back as she cried on his shoulder. He rocked her back and forth until she fell asleep.

Brian got up early the next day. He slipped out of bed early and saw his mom making coffee in the kitchen.
"Morning, Mom." He said.
"Brian, what are you doing up?" she asked.
"Couldn't sleep." He told her.
"I could tell. Is there something wrong?" she asked him and joined her son at the table. He quickly told her about Heather's dream.
"She just started crying!" he said.
"Well, honey. You have to know that when women are pregnant, they get very emotional. Every once in a while, just show her you love her. She needs a lot of your love right now," Mrs. Littrell said. Brian nodded and finished his breakfast.
