If you had the day I did, you'd refer to it as that too. ~WSL
I prepared for the day as far back as when Ananova first released Prince
Charles' itinerary for the trip to Canada. Turns out I wasn't as prepared
as I thought I was -- I couldn't get a hold of the times he was scheduled
to arrive in Ottawa. I was informed over the news that he was to arrive
at one pm. but I had no idea where to get to see him. I turned on a local
newscast and found out that he was going to go down Sparks Street right
after he left the airport. (Sparks Stret is a reasonably nice street that
is made of bricks and is now only open to pedestrian traffic). Talk about
hitting the ground running.
I went downtown and much to the dismay of the news vendors, went though
the local papers to find out as much as I could. I got confirmation of
the time and place then headed down towards Sparks Street which had been
turned into a police filled area. There were drug/bomb sniffing dogs, snipers
from on top of the buildings and His Royal Highness' elite Metropolitan
Police Dectives/Securtity guards. It was so cool.
I bought a violet plant from the local florist and left it pretty in its
pot to show how I was nice to plants and leave them in their natural habitat
instead of picking them out and letting them die slowly.
When the time came, HRH went walked down Sparks Street shaking hands and
accepting gifts. He rounded the corner nd choose the side I ws standing
in. How neat is that, eh? He got four (count it, one, two, three ME) a
ways and some group of delinquent children started to yell and scream and
say "He's a Prince, yyyaaayyy". I ignored them and continued to beam nice
and bright for the Prince of wales and ... he changed sides to talk to
the children.
I gagged and handed the plant to an aid and ran t the tomb of the unknown
soldier. Once there I found a place which was crappy and watched the Prince
pay his respects. I started waving as soon as he headed for the car. As
he entered his car (which neatly enough had a miniature Prince of Wales'
flag upfront and to the drivers side) he waved right to me and I got to
make eye contact with him.
I went to work only to be greeted by boss who met Diana, Princess
of Wales when he was five. He got to sing an Australian song to her and
he was still so happy.
At least I got to see him, sigh.
