Fixing your own MystakesWritten By GEORGE, Not TIM! I recently upgraded my older broher, Rich's computer. But let me give you a brief history of the computer. My brother want to replace his old Compaq 500 Mhz comp. Around early August last summer. I offered to build my broher a computer, but he refused saying that he did not really trust me. After crying for a few days, jk.. I looked through a mail order catalog that i had gotten in the mail, and I found a Powerspec Pc. 1ghz, 64 megs ram, 10 gig Hard drive, and the rest was pretty normal. It only cost around 500 dollars. About three weeks after we received the computer. To our surprise it came with 256 megs of ram and a 20 gig harddrive. Aftercalming down, my brother and i pulled out our plans and we got to work. After booting the computer to see if the computer worked, whe shut it down and got to work. What we did was I took WD 20 gig hard drive from my parts box and daisy chained it to the 20 gig, totaling 40 gigs we were satisfied. We also took the DVD and CD-RW out of his Compaq and we added those. We did other small upgrades like adding his GeForce 2 mx to his computer. The reason i gave my brother these parts was because he had agreed to give me his compaq with everything except the DVD and CD-RW. And he gave me his new 52x CD-Rom after running the compaq on my network, not getting much use out of it i took the HDD out and then sold it as a barebones to tim along with two 2 gig harddrives for 100 dollars. My brother upgraded his geforce to a 3d prophet 64 meg card. He gae me his geforce which i old with a system. Then he upgraded to a geforce 3 and gave me the prophet. Which i used for a while then upgraded to a geforce three which i then upgraded for a geforce four. So I put the geforces into systems and now i have a test prophet. Anyway lets get to the part where I upgrade rich's pros to a 1.3 gig duron which i found online for 60 bucks. I put that in and bought the 1ghz pros for cheap. Then i sold that in a system. So everything was fine untill i upgraded win ME to win 2000 pro. I changed the filesystem from FAT 32 to NTFS. A week later his primary drive died. So i gave him a 4 gig that i installed win 2000 on to use for his system. when i installed the 4 gig i had to take the bad 20 out, and inorder to do that i had to take the pros fan foo cuz rich has a small case. When i put the fan back on, i did the inevitable, i chipped the middle tooth that holds the fan on. BIG PROBLEM! After telling my older and understanding brother that i woed him a new motherboard, i figured out better way. After days of thinking i found the case fan, THE DRAGON ORB 3. I noticed that this fan clips on to the board with 6 teeth instead of two. The Thermaltake Dragon orb 3 is a high proformance fan, used mainly for overclocking. After buying and installing that fan. The performance was better and he was satisfied and thats how i fixed my mystake. The whole point is to satisfy your customer in the most cost-effective way. And thats how i did it. I then RMAed his 20 gig drive and had problems doing that. I sent two broken drives one being my 17.2 gig drive and his 20. I put them in the same box as i was told and sent them fedex ground. I got an e-mail saying they got 1 drive, Richards of course, and that they were still waiting for mine. I was appauled! Both drives were in the same box and they only got one... hmmmm, something is wrong. I e-mailed support and told them that both drives were in the same box and that something was wrong. They did not act like they cared. They told my that i need to send them my fedex tracking number. I was and still am in spain and the tracking number is in the united states. After making some calls I got the tracking number and they varified the weight and said that they will send me the drive immediately. Not apologizeing they sent the drive. |
