The painterly effect in this image is achieved by using a technique called "Orton Montage".
Basically, 2 slides are "sandwiched" together, one in-focus with lots of depth of field (f22),
the other out of focus with little depth of field (f4). Both shots are overexposed so that the
final image will be exposed correctly.
