Origins of MRED Names

(An explaination of where the creators came up with the names for the Myst, Riven, Exile, and D'ni universe)

Some of these I found out a long time ago, others more recently. I decided to place them in alphabetical order.
Achenar (evil and ruthless son of Atrus)-
Achernar is the brightest star in the constellation Eridanus and is Arabic for "end of a river"
Amateria (forces age in Exile)-
Amaterasu is the central Shinto deity, a sun goddess believed to be the ancestor of the Japanese royal family (Amateria had a "Japanesey" look, didn't it?)
Edanna (garden Age in Exile)-
Eden, the incredible garden, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Messopotamia, in which Adam and Eve were created and subsequently removed from in the book of Genesis in the Bible
Kerath (last king of D'ni)-
not sure but it sounds like the Klingon name Korath
Khalis (father of Aitrus)-
some Klingon leader
Rime (the arctic age writen by Atrus)-
rime is a thick frost
Riven (fith age of Gehn)-
to rive means to pull apart
Selentic (one of the ages in Myst)-
Selene, Greek godess of the moon. Associated with Luna, the Roman godess of the moon
Sirrus (evil and greedy son of Atrus)-
Sirius is the brightest star in Canis Major (and the sky, minus Venus and the moon, but they don't count anyway...), with an appearant magnetude of -1.5 and is the Greek word for "scorching"
Terahnee (magnificent age in the Book of D'ni)
many people have suggested tyranny as the root word of this. I tend to agree with them
Uru (a.k.a. D'ni In Real Time a.k.a. MUDPIE)-
I believe this comes from "you are you", referring to the dramatic realism in motion etc.. of the game
Voltaic (energy age in Exile)-
the voltaic cell battery
