  Plant Management

As soon as the plants start to grow and develop it is important that you make as many qualitative and quantitative observations
as possible.  We have provided a Data Chart that can be used by each group of students to organize their observed data.

Materials:

5 gallons (20 liters) of local water for every 3 plants
                Graduated cylinder
                Thermometer
                 Data chart
pH  pHydrion paper (Insta-CHEK 0-13) or a pH meter

Procedure:

Step 1
Make  sure you pour all the local water you collected together and measure the pH by using the pHydrion pH paper or a pH meter.

Step 2
Store the water in a clean closed container to avoid pH changes.

Step 3
Using a spray bottle, feed each of your plant seedlings 600 ml of water everyday.  Do not fertilize or use any plant food on your plant.

Step 4
Keep your plant under a lamp with a 100 watt incandescent bulb for six hours each day, maintaining the temperature at 80
    degrees Fahrenheit (25 ºC).

Step 5
Using the data chart provided, record any changes of growth and development of your plant.

Record changes in plant as it grows:

    1. Height and other dimensions such as circumference of flower
    2. Number, color, and shape of leaves
    3. Characteristics of the flower
    4. Signs of disease
