Monday of next week the
student will be going to work with one of their parents to get a good idea
of what is all required in a job. Not only does it give them a good look on
life but it also gives an eye opening experience for the kids to see what
their parents go through everyday. Dressing for success, saying the right
things, having everything done when it needs to be done, and things of that
nature are required at a job. Having the students write a paper about what
they did, how they had to dress, what was all required of them, and the
small jobs that they had to do throughout the day gives me a chance to see
what they learned. Also, the paper when returned gives the student something
to look back upon and remember as they go into the job field in the future.
Poetry

We have been reading different types of
poetry from short ones, long ones, and even ones that have no form of rhythm
to the naked eye. Every night for the past week or so one student is
assigned to find a poem that meant something to them, we will continue to do
this until every student has had a chance. Then in class they stand up, read
the poem, and then share of why they picked it and what it meant to them. If
another student has a different view of what the poem meant, they are more
than welcome to share what they thought. It gives the students a good chance
to see what is out there, the different styles that are used, and what the
writer really meant by ways of analogies and different forms of hidden
expressions through words. After every student has had the chance to share a
poem or more if they like of choice there is going to be a bigger assignment
of writing their own poem. Something that is meaningful and might only make
sense to them. If they like they are more than welcome to share their poem
with the class and then explain what it means. If they for some reason or
other don't want to share with the class writing an explanation of their
poem when they turn the assignment in, is just as good. |
Jobs...Jobs...Jobs... In
class we have been working on a Web quest that I have created for students
to get an idea of what types of jobs there are, how much the pay is, as an
employer what are their responsibilities and other basic information. Not
only does the Web quest give them an idea about jobs but also it gives them
the opportunity to expand their horizons through the Internet. Finding the
information that is needed through a numerous amount of links and then
putting all the information gathered together into a research paper.
Life Beyond

As we are all aware juniors are looking
towards the future, which for a lot of students are colleges. In class we
have been discussing what colleges look for, what should & shouldn't be said
in interviews, and also how to fill in an application and the many dos and
don'ts of that process. Many students have a long list of what colleges they
are thinking of and we are working on ways to make the list quite a bit
smaller. Looking at catalogues and analyzing the different colleges. Looking
at the college's web site and see everything that they may have to offer
there. Whether it fits what the student wants or not. College is a rough
time for students and preparing them is the best that they can do. Helping
them to decide what they really want out of life and how to fulfill the many
dreams that they have. Dreaming is always good but what is fantastic is
turning those dreams into reality.
TESTS

We have received the information from
the SAT and ACT organizations. It is very important that your son or
daughter take these tests to get into college. We are working on filling out
the forms in school and then they will take them home for you to look over
and get some idea of what they are doing and how much it is going to cost
you. Don't worry this won't be a waste of time or money. To get into college
today either the SAT or ACT scores are required and to get scores you have
to have taken the tests. For those that sign up for the test we are going to
have extra sessions during class to study and prepare for the tests. Also,
they are usually on a Saturday or Sunday depending on what location you
choose and if any of the students need rides I have already cleared it with
the principal and we will have a bus that can take people back and forth
from house to test location. This is very important, I hope you take this
into consideration for your child's future. |
