« ...SEIZURES... TO AID SOMEONE HAVING A SEIZURE Do not Attempt to restrain them; this may result in bruises or even a fracture for them. Do not try to open their mouth to insert a gag, even if they are biting their tongue; this won't help them, and your fingers may be injured. The most common cause of repeated seizures or convulsions is epilepsy, a neurological disorder that involves a recurrent disturbance of the electrical activity in the brain. But seizures can also be brought on by a stroke or brain tumor, high fever (especially in children), or other serious medical conditions, or sometimes by drugs or excessive alcohol. Most people with epilepsy are aware of their condition and take medication for it. To aid someone having a seizure, take these step: IF a person falls, try to catch them or at least ease their descent.Clear away any sharp or hard objects. Cushion their head. Loosen their belt, necktie, or other tight clothing. When the seizure is over, turn them on their side to prevent choking. A seizure usually last two minutes or less, and if the person is uninjured, you may not need to summon medical aid. Mouth to mouth resuscitation is hardly ever needed-breathing is depressed during the seizure, but should resume without assistance. The biggest danger is that a seizure may occur while driving or swimming. Deep sleep, followed by temporary loss of memory, commonly occur after a seizure. If the cause of the seizure is unknown, if the person immediately has a second convulsion, or if injury has occurred, seek medical attention. ****************
