Clean Your Tack

As far as tack cleaning and conditioning, one of my fellow riders taught me to make this wonderful stuff called Suzy Soap out of Lexol conditioner and glycerin soap.

You take a little bit of Lexol Conditioner and put it in a coffee can and sit the coffee can in a pot of hot water. Use a potato peeler to shave most of a bar of glycerin soap into the conditioner. Stir it until the soap melts into the conditioner. If it's the right amounts, it almost has the consistency of custard when the mixture is warm.

When it cools, it has the firmness of soap and about the color of butter. I always keep mine in an old Cool Whip container with the sponge right in with it.

Most of the people at the barn just took the sponge and would run it over their tack after riding - it acts like a quick dirt and dust remover while conditioning. It can, however be used with water just like saddle soap to clean leather.
