February 2002 Weather Summary:
3-01-02 60 75 0.02 51 73 0.05 Mostly Cloudy with isolated rain showers. Another Strong cold front approaches from the midwest.
3-02-02 38 67 33 64 0.01 STRONG COLD FRONT RACES THROUGH THE STATE CAUSING RAPID CHANGE IN TEMPERATURES. The second arctic front in two weeks rolled across the area during the morning hours. A very sharp drop of 15 to 20 degrees from the 60's to the 40's and 50's in just one hour. Temperatures hovered in the lower 50's under mostly sunny skies for the rest of the afternoon with very strong gusty north-west winds.
3-03-02 34 54 29 49 Gusty north-west winds continued to usher unseasonably cold weather into south Texas. Temperatures under clear skies and strong winds fell to freezing and below across many areas of the coastal bend. The cold temperatures combined with the strong winds produced wind-chills in the upper teens and 20's for most of the early morning hours. Temperatures rebounded only to the upper 40's to mid 50's under sunny skies.
3-04-02 28* 61 21* 59 RECORD COLD TEMPERATURES FELT ACROSS THE AREA THIS MORNING. The temperature at the Victoria Airport sunk to 21 degrees this morning, setting a new record low for the date. In addition, this ties for the coldest temperature ever recorded during the month of March in Victoria, last set on March 2, 1980. This is also the latest in the season to have such a temperature. The temperature in Corpus Christi bottomed out at 28 degrees this morning. This was also good enough for a record, beating the old value by one degree, set in 1965. Temperatures fell into the teens across the Hill Country, including Austin and San Antonio. A light wind off the gulf kept coastal areas much milder as NAS Corpus Christi did not go any lower than the upper 30's. The Lower Rio Grande Valley again escaped a freeze as temperatures held in the 30's due to the increased winds and cloud cover. An extremely dry airmass combined with light winds, no clouds, and the arctic front which blew through a few days ago contributed to the record cold.
3-05-02 36 63 T 27 60 Cloudy and warmer. Mostly clear early. Victoria was within one degree of their record low set in 1917. Winds shifted back to the south during the late afternoon hours.

MASSIVE FLASH FLOODING DUE TO 3'+ AN HOUR RAINFALL RATES A stalled out frontal boundary, combined with plentiful tropical moisture and low upper level winds provided the perfect ingredients for a historic day weatherwise across the city of Corpus Christi. 3 tornados were believed to have touched down in the city, all from the same severe thunderstorm. One tornado was rated an F-0, touched down at 2:32 p.m. near Old Brownsville road. Estimated at under 50 yards wide, it was the weakest and smallest of the tornados. Synopsis: During the heat of the day, very powerful thunderstorms erupted across the coastal bend, along with isolated supercell thunderstorms along and ahead of the boundary. These severe thunderstorms were also extremely heavy rain producers with hourly rainfall rates reaching and exceeding 3 inches per hour at times.
