The
LUST
LAIR

First of all! Letz clear up something for those of you who don’t know!
A “LUST” is a group of Wenches … much like a
“murder” of crows … a “mob” of kangaroos … a “gaggle” of geese … and so on.
Thus, a “Lust Muster Poynte” is the place where a group of Wenches gathers.
Likewise, a “Lust Lair” is the place wherein a group of Wenches lodges.

It ain’t got NUTHIN’ ta do with “sexual” LUST!!!
Well … not in public, anyway!

Now, on with the LUST LAIR saga!

In December of 2002, I reserved and paid for one of the Cabins in the “Springs” area of the Lutheran Camp.

“Cedar Cabin,” Cabin #1, is the closest cabin to the FAIRE AREA … and, the cabin closest to what I thought was the ONLY toilet & shower facility.

It’s technical “capacity” is 12 persons,
but there are 16 beds in it!

And, it cost only $100 per night.

During our stay we learned that there is another – decidedly NICER – toilet & shower facility across the meadow from us.

So, on Saturday, I decided to get the cabin closest to THAT facility for NEXT year.

However, I’ve since changed my mind!

It’s not that far a trek over the meadow to the NICE facility.

So, I’d still rather be in the cabin CLOSEST TO THE FAIRE site!

The view from our porch, across the meadow.
That’s the top of the other toilet/shower facility!

I offered the cabin to all and sundry, for a maximum of $10 per person, per night … until a total of 11 people lodged there. Then, the cost would go down to $9 per person per night. If we got to 12 people; $8.25 per person, that night. And, so on, until we were jam-packed FULL and only paying $6.25 each!

As it happens, we were only FOUR for Thursday and Saturday nights.
And SIX for Friday night.

Which turned out to be an OK thing. ‘Cause the cabin was somewhat SMALLER than I estimated!

(I never actually went INSIDE it, until the day I arrived!)

Here’s the First Floor. FIVE sets of Bunk Beds and 10 bare mattresses. That’s it! I managed to move one bunk over and squeeze a table in! Plus, I brought a rolling clothes rack. So, even with only SIX of us on one night, it was … COZY!

HOWEVER, we could have slept NINE on the first floor with relative ease – it’s only all the STUFF that accompanies nine people that would have made it “crowded.”
Why not TEN people? Because, I staple-gunned a “CHANGING AREA” up between 2 bunks.
The changing area covered the ladder to one of the upper bunks. So, I made that upper bunk the “DEPOSITORY AREA” for belongings of those who USED the cabin to change in, but didn’t LODGE in the cabin. So, any more than NINE lodgers would have had to use the LOWER LEVEL room.

The Lower Level room
has six beds, a table,
and a clothes rack.
But, it’s “unfinished” and
somewhat gnarly-looking.

However, it has this
lovely DECK
surrounded by woodland!
With some RUGS
tossed on the floor,
it would NOT be “awful”
to sleep down here!

Thus, next year,
CONSIDER JOYNING US
in the LUST LAIR!!!

The Lust Lair is a “co-ed” thing! Men and Women lodging together … with or without the benefit of marriage! But, only ONE BODY is allowed PER BUNK BED.
(Refer back to the “LUST LAIR” explanation!)

Although NO BEDDING was provided (much to the incredible dismay of some vendors from South Dakota who brought NONE with them!), I’ve since learned the following about these cabins:
  • Bedding could have been provided, had people asked for it.
  • A HEATER could have been provided, had we asked for it. (Next year, I will!)
  • Pretty much anything you NEED could be provided, if you knew to ask for it ahead of time!

Mel & Pierre on our porch.

The cabin has electricity!

We had my coffee maker &
my large Hot Water Pot for coffee,
tea, cocoa, instant oatmeal & soup.

I also brought my BOOM BOX
and several Celtic CDs.

Pierre and I enjoyed BAG PIPE music
at the start of each day (likely to the
chagrin of others within hearing)!

Having a Lust Lair cabin also affords ANY folkz o’ our acquaintance a place to change clothes … a place to park belongings during their Faire attendance … a place to “freshen up” periodically … a place to stow Faire purchases!

Lady Jacqueline (the Henna artist) and several Lincoln Irish Dancers made use of it.

Again, this is why I’d rather be in the cabin closest to the FAIRE SITE!

Above Pic from Left to Right: Pierre, Ray (in the shadows) & Joyce – a couple from
South Dakota who lodged with us on Friday night – Judy & Mitch of the LIDs.

(Put your MOUSE on the pic!)

We didn’t see any deer wandering the meadow. But! A flock of WILD TURKEYS came pecking by each morning!

I’ve never seen a flock of wild turkeys before!

All in all … it was a great CABIN and a fabulous experience – my first-ever “overnight” at a Ren Fest!

The best part about it:
Meeting NEW REN FRIENDS!

(More about them later!)
