I remember back when I first bought a guitar. My friend Chris was going to get a new one and he sold it to me for real cheap. Im talking low...I really scraped him. It was a wonderful feeling. And playing it was a way to vent my feelings. If I stubbed my toe or was feeling really good, I would just head back to my room and hammer out songs on that fretboard. It was a simple guitar. A jet black Samick with a white pickguard just starting to show its use. Of course I wasn't very skilled at this point, but I kept playing around with it.
In the next couple of weeks Chris, Shannon, and I played at a mall in Myrtle Beach this summer for our church. We had a lot of fun being out there and playing music. So when we got back we just left our stuff set up in the youth room at our church.
Every Wednesday night we would get together and play some stuff. We would have an audience there because on Wednesday nights there are youth functions. They were always a receptive audience (haha!). Dan was invited to our church, and we got him to play some songs with us.
But as things turned out, it became easier to play at Shannon's house. So we moved the stuff there and decided to become a band. StateEdition it was. Of course it took us while to figure out what to call ourselves so we were throwing around things like: Hawiian 5-0, The Beatles and Creed...but they didn't seem to hit it off like StateEdition. StateEdition just doesn't mean anything at all. Yeah.
So we tried out for Rock night 2000. We bombed it. So many things went wrong I don't know what went right.
The next year we had stepped up our music and done in with cover songs. With our own material we were ushered through into the lineup. Rock night went pretty well as we closed the show. Thanks to those of you who came out to listen.
We played a concert at the armory with three other bands. It ended up being an alright show. We'll do another one this fall.
We just came out with our first cd. It features 11 classic State songs. We haven't decided on a price yet but stay tuned...
This just in...our album is finally up for sale. For the low price of $4 you can own StateEdition's first CD. To get yours get in touch with any band member or e-mail Chad at hhsjazzguy@yahoo.com, Dan at dan1384@aol.com, or Shannon at radiofire4@hotmail.com!!
